Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
boxscore: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore?gid=2007102628
Final Score: Toronto 98 Washington 64
another very sick showing, all-around, taking the W in the pre-season finale. following a 33 point win with an even more all-around impressive 34 point win.
Toronto End of Preseason record: 3-1 vs. NBA competition, only loss came with our bench basically losing to celts big 3, only in the final 35 seconds.
string of wins to get confidence over the eastern conference rival Bulls, East Champs the Cavaliers & the Wizards.
5-2 overall this summer getting acclimated to the new guys on the team.
my thoughts,
true story when i say, best game ive ever seen Andrea Bargnani play, on his 22nd birthday none the less, he showed that raw talent & got it going real early, showing his new penchant for hittin the glass, showed many things ive never seen before in this game ending with a statline of 17 points, 8 rebounds (4off) & 3 blocks in only 22minutes
Delfino w/ a eye opening 3 game string of play, looks like he's that slashing, defensive, energy/hustle guy we thought he was afterall, line of the night; solid 10points, 6 rb, 3as, 3 stl, 2 block in 18minutes, coulda been better, the open shots just didnt fall tonight.
Kapono really likes to shoot the ball, slow start, 50% FG for 12PT (games 2nd leading scorer, ties scoring lead for Wash)
Dixon great shooting, 3-4fg, 2-2 from 3, picked his spots, 10points, 4rb (3 offensive) thats what i like to see, the smallest guys out there, ford & dixon rebounding the ball.
Ford w/ 6 rebound, 8 assist, & you barely notice him.. which as T.O. knows, that's a good thing sometimes, 0 TO.
all i can say is.... Wednesday, Halloween, 76ers,
you know the deal boys, what yall thought

Jamario's alley - oop at the end was sick, wicked and nasty!!
Luke Jackson also had a solid game out there.
I say cut Baston and/or Martin both a waste of floor space and good cash

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
we need baston w/ length off the bench, he does all the off the ball work, has good positioning, quick hands and has never got extended minutes so you can't judge maceo as a player off this preseason, he's never played more then 6-7 minutes. martin is useless out there, dixon & delfino can do what he does.. which is jack up shots and ignore guys playing hard, trying to not get cut.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
I think one of the main reasons Baston is there is cause he can match up against Bosh in practice. Didn't get much of a chance to prove himself in the preseason games. He will most likely stick it out with the Raps.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
I agree wrt Bargnani. Also nice to see Bosh feed AB on the hi-lo. If Bargs is going to reeach his potential, Bosh will have to share. Bargs should flirt with 20 ppg. Some real nice blocks, and nice work on the glass, plus better presence in the post.
I also think team concept is gelling, on both offence and defence. Defensive rotations were better, but I especially was thrilled to see how the Raps are doubling now. It used to seem like the doubled the ball just to get the player to pass it out. Now they are doubling to steal, coming in quiokly from the blind side. Lots of steals vs both Wiz and Cavs.
Kapono can flat out shoot, and his teammates know it. He actually was off last night, and still had 12 on 50%!
Delfino is starting to look like what we hoped for. Now I just hope he can be that way most of the time.
I really hope TJ can be content with winning. When he feels like he needs to score, it hurts the team. Now more then ever, with the better options on offence.
I would really like to see them keep Luke Jackson. I think they could get by with TJ, Calderon, Dixon, AP and Luke as ball handlers, and get more out of the roster than keeping Darick Martin. And I don't think Baston justifies a roster spot.

It has been said that Hump has owned Baston in Practice during the preseason. With Rasho, Garbajosa, and Huphries off the bench this year there are not any minutes for Baston.....hello Pape Sow the second!

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
Well, there have apparently been a lot if Hump inquiries, though I’m not privy to what his market value is. You can understand the interest. While he can be a frustrating at times, he’s a 22-year-old who can physically guard two positions and run with any point guard in the league, and he leads the Raptors in rebounds per-minute. Baston was added for depth, but the signing also spurred Humphries, who is already one of the Raptors most diligent workers. Early on in training camp the word from those who would know was that Humphries was more than holding his own against Baston -- “killing him” – I think was the way it was described. And Baston didn’t help his cause with an awful outing against the Celtics in Rome. More recently Baston has picked it up and showed well last night, but Humphries has had a good exhibition season. If he can continue to build on the flashes he’s shown in the last half of last-season and during the pre-season, he can be a real factor.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
The interior defence of the Raps continues to impress. We are bringing help from all angles and knocking balls loose all game. If that continues into the regular season with no fouls being called against us our D will be surprisingly good.
Is Delfino's shot starting to get into a nice groove? If so then Joey is nailed to the bench.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
delfino can shoot, the game against washington the shot wasnt falling, but he doesnt even need to be taking those shots, he does everything else on the court and he has range all the way out past the 3
"Baston didn’t help his cause with an awful outing against the Celtics" if they think 2pts, & 4rbs in under 6 minutes against KG in your 1st game with a new team, not to mention in end of game crunch time is awful.. then i don't know what to tell you.. its insulting to call baston, pape sow the 2nd.. when i see people do that, it obviously signifies they don't know who maceo is & need to step their knowledge game up.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
I assumed Baston was going to step into the 9 man rotation this year based on his rep coming out of Europe and the contract BC gave him for 2 years. But based on the PT allocation in pre-season it is pretty clear that Sam is not happy with what he has been seeing in practice. At this point Baston may just be insurance in case Hump actually gets a good offer this summer that we don't want to match.
Only 4 bench guys will see regular minutes and 3 of those spots are taken up with Jose, Carlos, and Rasho.
That leaves Hump, Garbo, Baston, Joey, Dixon, Moon all fighting for scraps. Baston and Moon fighting to stay dressed for games along with Martin.

Re: Oct. 26th: Toronto vs. Washington
I'm not so sure about that. I think Delfino gets the minutes early in the season and only loses them if the team isn't winning (on a pace for 50 wins).
Wouldn't surprise me if we need Garbo on the floor more than we think right now to be a serious contender. But for now Sam and BC are infatuated with the creativity and mobility of Delfino.
