John Salmons
Boy do I wish he never re-negged on the Toronto contract. This guy is a baller, efficient scorer that does a little of everything. He would've been a great second option.
However, he did say that it was in his destiny to goto Sacremento and now he's reaping the benefits of his decision with his improved gameplay and rising stature.
Good for him.
But nevertheless, if only...

Re: John Salmons
No, I like this discussion.
He got the opportunity and he's taking advantage of it. When I watch him I still wonder if he would be able to get the kind of minutes he's getting in Sac on most teams. That being said he's shooting over 50%, averaging 17 points and like 5 boards.
I think he would look very good on THIS roster. He isn't in love with the three point shot and likes to get into the lane.
Ah well. Hopefully BC can flip dixon (who was ultimately salmon's replacement) into some type of asset.

Re: John Salmons
He is having a great year.....another guy I like on that team is Fransisco Garcia. I think that he may be available. With Kevin Martin due to return to the starting lineup, Beno playing well at the point, and Salmons on the wing, Garcia may be a guy looking for a team that he can get minutes on.....but we are loaded with players on the wing.

Re: John Salmons
I always liked Salmons and remember him playing quite well for the Sixers when Iverson woudl be out. Larry Bird was very high on this kid as a rook in summer league. Nice t to see him getting some burn in SAC.
An interesting player. Not dominating at any position but versatile enough to play and guard the 1 and 2 spots.
Another example of BC throwing big money at mid-tier free agents though. Kapono has been good, at least to me, but is he worth the money for the minutes and contribution we get from him under Sam? Would Sam have a clue how to use Salmons?

Re: John Salmons
He wasn't that good last year after the Kings signed him, but is having a breakout season now. I don't know if he would have the same success if he came to the Raptors. He wouldn't have the same opportunities to play through his mistakes like he did in Sacramento under a team playing for nothing.

i've heard this point several times and i don't dispute it. the raptors would say kapono's minutes (for one thing) from one night to the next are a reflection of our depth. that may be partly true, but i would suggest that it has more to do with our team's approach from one night to the next: we habitually concede to the style of our opponent. we very rarely impose our will on them. i think kapono's varying contributions may only be a symptom of this. and if true, it's a problem that the team should address promptly. we can't be at our best if we're just reacting. we need to find an identity of our own instead of letting it change so drastically on the backs of whoever we're playing.
it's a complicated issue, though, and i don't for a second claim to know what the first step would be to solve it. that said, if you wish to define yourself, it's always important to forget about the players who are not with you (garbo, tj). i'm getting the feeling that the raps are beginning to do this, and if true it would be a good start.
peace

Re: John Salmons
i knew he had the ability he is showing regularly now... from the days of the 76ers, when AI just dominated the ball.. John is a good ball handler, needs to create more.. which he is getting done for Sac-Town this year.
also i was very impressed with his speed for 6'7 +
i won't lie, when he backed out, and freddy jones signed.. i actually liked that signing much more.. i was quite wrong, fred did not show any drive while he was here.
good luck to salmonella

I think this is a really interesting point. If there are mismatches can't they work in our favor?
What does this do for the psyche of our young players? i.e. "Sorry andrea that guy is too big for you we're going to give rasho some extra minutes" where as we could just as easily exploit that mismatch with andrea's quickness.

Re: John Salmons
Because Parker and Delfino are better players. Sure, I'd take Salmons over Graham or Dixon but I'd also take me over Dixon at this point.

Re: John Salmons
Delfino and Salmons are very similar players, but I like to think that Salmons is the better scorer of the two. Dont look at tonights performance as indication that AP or Delfino are better - the problem with Salmons isnt talent-based but rather the fact that Artest, Martin, and Bibby are now going to be taking shots away from him. Last month, he averaged about 13 attempts, tonight he was reduced to about half of that. He would actually be a good fit here as our off-guard since hes able to create for himself off the dribble and thats what we currently need from our 2 spot especially in late game situations...

Re: John Salmons
I don't know that he's a better backup PG than Juan and he's not going to get minutes on the wing so it's irrelevant. I like Joey more, who's starting to come on as our SF/PF hybrid.
