Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
Quote:
|
The report, citing two officials close to the situation, said the Phoenix Suns have discussed sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Heat in exchange for O'Neal.

Shaq going after one more ring...and the beginning of a huge turn around for the Heat (for next season anyway). Does this deal make the Suns favorites to win the Title or are they just adding an over the hill injury prone Big Man. For Miami this is a good move for the next few years. Wade, Marion and ? (M.Beasly, D.Rose, E.Gordon...ect) Thats gonna be a scary threesome (lol)

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
This is a funny rumor. I'm not sure Shaq's that useful anymore, aside from the comedy potential.
But I'd support the Suns making a ballsy move, just once. Sarver's such a killjoy. And a cheapskate.

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
I dont think that would work for the suns. Shaqs not gonna be able to run with em, he might help in half court but I think having Marion on the defensive end is better than Shaq in the half court. I think if theyre gonna go after a big man it should be Ben Wallace, hes athletic so he can definitely run with them and while his defense has dropped he can still probably get up and play good D for the Suns

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
This move would kill any championship hopes that they had during the Nash era.

For some reason, I'd want to see this trade done.
I think it's because I hate Phoenix.

Big Ben is toast. His personality would work on the Suns but his game doesn't. He's not an elite defender anymore. (Then again, neither is Shaq.)
The Suns would be better off trading for Chandler. But that's not happening.

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
That would be a gutsy move by the Suns.
A motivated Shaq is still a force inside. His FG% and ability to foul out front line players is huge. And Shaq has never played with a passer like Nash who won't miss him when he works hard for position.
Only problem I see is that there isn't enough time left in this season for Shaq to truly get in top shape. I think his divorce has been the biggest problem with him this year.
Spurs have thinned out their front line and don't have the beef to guard a Shaq like they did with Rasho and Nazr there.
Suns don't need a 5 man fast break. A 4 man break is more than enough with Shaq as your main halfcourt weapon for stretches of games. Kareem wasn't at his best for the final Laker titles with Magic but they used him the right way and had speed around him.
Don't know if D'Antoni would know what to do with Shaq in his system though.

First look, didn't like it for the suns.
Second look i Think it's a very gutsy improvement.
Plus it's a bonus not letting him go to Dallas. I think anyway?
It'll be interesting to see what developes

The seemingly improbable pairing of an aging Shaquille O'Neal and the run-and-gun Phoenix Suns is just a final "yes" from the Suns away from happening, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday night that the Miami Heat have already agreed to send O'Neal to the Suns in exchange for All-Star forward Shawn Marion and out-of-favor guard Marcus Banks. Miami is simply waiting for Phoenix management to complete a medical examination of O'Neal and formally accept what would rank as one of the most unexpected trades in league history.

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
this is a fascinating development, imo. #1, it could suggest that marion was becoming a distraction in phoenix. i know he's been looking for an extension (or trade) for a while but it might've just come to a head now. to be honest, i was surprised he could go about his business the way that he did for as long as he did. i mean, it too often seems like there are just two types of players: the one who demands a trade and becomes a 'cancer' until he gets one or the one who doesn't and doesn't. there's not much of an in-between but marion must've been an exception. not sure, just a thought.
#2, i see this as a concession by the suns, in that they didn't fully believe in themselves anymore. if you think you're a legit title threat- like the suns would've had you believe they did- you don't easily make moves like this. but i always appreciate the teams that are willing to take a chance. there are too many franchises, imo, who sit on their hands for too long- though there are also too many teams who don't do it for long enough. it's a fine balance, i guess. if the suns knew they weren't going to take the next step as is, i commend them for being proactive here.
of course, maybe it was as simple the suns not being able to afford losing marion to free agency this summer. maybe they just wanted some guaranteed compensation for him. but shaq? for a team with neverending cap and tax concerns, he's not exactly a bargain at this stage.
and wrt shaq, i've not been a fan of his for years. can't even remember the last time he suited up vs the raps in toronto. might've played once last year, not sure. but he's taken games off for a long time and i've never been cool with that. i want to see how quickly he manages to suit up for the suns now (if the deal goes through). if it's in the next week (or worse, immediately) i'll lose even more respect for the man. it'd just prove that he was unwilling to go through the rigours for the heat in the midst of a losing season, and not that he was unable to do so. sore hip? knee? back? sort of but not really. bad team.
imo, if every star took time off like shaq, the league would fall apart in no time. the idea of entitlement is so old for me. i feel guilty for it but i can't say i was unhappy watching o'neal (and alonzo) get thumped on monday night. just desserts, imo. too bad it came at the expense of d-wade, for whom i still have massive respect. in fact, i do hope it was wade who recommended that miami move shaquille, though that's unlikely.
the playoff picture was compelling already. now imagine throwing shaquille o'neal into the mix.
peace

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
Question: which would you rather have playing in your frontcourt now and into the near future?
Shaq-Amare or KG-Marion?

Re: Report: Heat, Suns talking Shaq-Marion trade
to note;
Shaq two best games THIS season were vs. the phoenix suns.
1st meeting: 25pts, 10 rebound, 3 assist & 3 blocks
2nd meeting: 18pts, 11 rebound, 5 assists, 1 steal & 1 block in a Win
i really don't like marion, he won't be that great in MIA.
Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O'Neal, Will work if it goes down.
