i don't know how useful it is to do this but it might be important. just read the above quote over again and then consider where these players were drafted: bosh 1/4 (in arguably the most top-heavy draft in history), bargnani 1/1, boozer 2/35, okur 2/38. from that basic analysis, i should think we'd rather have bosh and bargnani!!! but... i can't say it's not true: they are more comparable in what they're doing for their teams today than their draft placings would have you believe. why is that? is it sloan or mitchell? is it the players on their teams? is it some set of intangibles that we've overlooked to date? it's either we underachieve, they overachieve or both. or something else.
very interesting comparison, imo. the raptors would, with a barrel of excuses, suggest that it means nothing (because that's what they do), the jazz would ignore it (because that's what they do), and maybe that's why it is what it is.
peace

Re: Jazz vs Raps
Don't exactly see why how the Raptors acquire Bosh and Bargnani has anything to do with the comparison. A player isn't better or worse because where he was drafted. It's a combination of what he has achieved and what he is likely to achieve (in a conservative, non homer infested prediction).
I think the balk of the thread (this one and the one in main forums) suggest that these 2 teams are indeed very different in terms to make up and player quality.
As much as I like it to be, NBA GMs simply can't pull out allstars from their behinds even if his name is Colangelo. It is the same way with coaches, there is only one Jerry Sloan and there is only one Gregg Poppovich, the teams without them will just have to make do with what they have and in most cases the results will vary. It's not an excuse, it's just how things are.

Re: Jazz vs Raps
-coach
-better players at the PG/SF/C position (equal stature between SG/PF)
is there really need to diagnose this even more? (btw i'm watching House right now so expect alot of medical-related terms for the time being)

Re: Jazz vs Raps
Jazz is the better team, but we've seen upsets happen all the time in a 7 game series. Just because one team looks better on paper doesn't mean the underdogs don't stand a chance.
I truly believe the raps can be real good though. We haven't been playing our best basketball and yet we're still a couple games above .500. Jazz is a team with a lot of reputation. I mean they're a good team, no doubt, but this is a team that a lot of "experts" call a contender, with media love child deron williams(many believe he's better than chris paul) and one of the best coach in nba history in jerry sloan whose name is often associated with greatness, so a lot of it is just that, reputation.

Re: Jazz vs Raps
With the Lakers, Spurs, Mavericks, Celtics, Suns, and Pistons in high gear, I don't think any real experts are calling the Jazz "contenders."
