Re: Sam Mitchell To Get the Axe?

I think Mitchell should get at least one more year. If the team struggles out of the gate then he should get the axe, but I don't think he should be blamed entirely on the team's struggles.

It is up to Colangelo to surround the team with some talent first and then determine whether Mitchell is the right coach. I've criticized Mitchell as much as anyone this season but I don't like the idea of making yet another coaching change. The Raptors finally have achieved some stability, they should try to make this work rather than just take out the coach. Firing him just 1 year after signing him to an extension would look bad for Colangelo as well.

Re: Sam Mitchell To Get the Axe?

Sam should have been fired two years ago. He originally applied for the job despite having only one year of experience as an assistant coach. He ended up losing out to KO that season. One year later MLSE hires their #2 candidate. He wasn't up against any legitimate competition when he landed the job! MLSE was still paying KO & Lenny Wilkens to sit at home so they hired the cheapest guy they could find to offset the costs.

BC wasn't brought in to build around Sam Mitchell's system. I don't think this franchise can move forward until Colangelo has his guy in place. There needs to be complete trust between the GM and HC and ours don't seem to be on the same page.

Sam hasn't earned the right to call for a specific move. I don't see why Colangelo would compromise his vision/philosophy for an unproven coach he didn't hire.

Re: Sam Mitchell To Get the Axe?

MLSE won't pay Sam to sit at home and then pay another top coach big money. Won't happen.

Sam was the perfect coach to come in and straighten out the locker room. But he may not be the guy to take us deep in the playoffs.

And I hated the way Sam mis-used the roster. Kapono is the biggest mistake of Sams time here, but I also feel the Joey Graham mess is partly on Sam as well. He should have gotten major minutes in year 1, but didn't. He showed more aggressiveness than Moon in limited minutes this year, and also had a major run at the end of last year where he showed what he could do. A wasted asset. And the awkward PT for Hump is also bizarre. He played him heavy minutes that won Hump a contract extension and then benched him the rest of the year. Just strange.

I think it is time for a change.
