Re: Free Agents
the RFAs look to be where the covetous action will be. lots of high talent kids like oakafor, smith, deng, iggy, etc.
there's going to be a lot more teams with capspace next summer than this one. ending contracts+picks for a sign'n'trade of an rfa is the quickest, clearest route to talent injection.
regarding free agent bigs- i don't know who we can find for a partial share of the MLE that will be an upgrade over brezec...wait...thought of a guy: walter herrmann. when a guy gets zero burn, its easy to forget about them. the guy's got length, can hit from pretty much anywhere, pretty quick for his size, so-so-to-ok defense, solid character...hm...i'm liking the idea. and he's buried in detroit.
ok, so far my list has walter herrmann, terrence kinsey, and theo papaloukas if we move a pointguard. not that fancy...maybe i need to switch it up with megamillionaires?

Re: Free Agents
Walter Hermann is not a big. He's like a more agile, softer version of Matt Bonner.
If we are looking for big man free agents, Diop is one name that's out there. Jackie Butler who had a decent stint with the Knicks before going to the Spurs is also a free agent.
An interesting idea here is Marcus Camby. Denver wants to cut salaries and I wonder if they will take Rasho along with maybe a pick either this year or next year for Camby. If they make a few deals and have players that they want to get rid of, we can also give them Parker/Garbo's expiring contract. I think Camby is the kind of player that can really help us. He only has 2 years left on his contract as well so it wouldn't be too big of a commitment.

Re: Free Agents
herrmann closed out his rookie year looking better than bonner ever did. we're missing the ability to put a shooter at the 4 when we go small with bosh at 5. herrmann is a better option for that that mitchell's choices of kapono/delfino/parker.

A shooter at the 4? I remember us drafting someone like that last year.

Re: Free Agents
herrmann's a 3/4, andrea's (supposed to be) a 4/5. it follows the formula to be able to put shooters around chris bosh. if they're hitting, cb gets a lot of room to play. we showed without garbo how much we miss having a dependable shooting big forward.

Re: Free Agents
How do we feel about Okafor?
Price set aside... I don't think he should be getting a max deal but he would help this team tremendously.
My only problem with him is his chronic injury problem. HAs he been getting better? Okafor and Bosh would be a marvelous tandem.
Would we be willing to throw say 10 millions at him a year?
I wouldn't be surprised if Bobcats decide to part with him... (I might be talking outta my *** here)... just a gut feeling

Re: Free Agents
oKAFOR is just okafor. he hasn't really improved, didnt he play all 82 games this year? if so, his injury frequency has improved, but he still has zero offensive game. would take alot to get him here, and don't think charlotte would trade. i'd really rather the team make an effort for gerald wallace, regardless of concussion problems.
and we should have just traded dixon for herrmann, i bet we had that option too. or was that too soon after the charlotte-detroit trade. idk
the guy has that one-handed palm the ball layups.. its sick, but he's still a weak player, has one of the best 'never give up' stories in the NBA tho.

Re: Free Agents
i remember BC talking about how he keeps tabs on guys from his original point of interest and continues to try and obtain them. one thing i read about regarding the (bad move) trading of the #7 was that BC liked iggy and thought he'd be gone for sure by then. also related to the pick, the #7 guy himself, deng, we heard BC talk about him in that behind the scenes draft thingy.
has their been talk about a SG vs a SF? all things being equal, shooting guard would be my preference.
what's a fair guess figure for what we'll have to pay Roko? that will have to come from our MLE (assuming >minimum salary). it'd give an idea of what we have to play with.

No. Andrea is more a 3 than Hermann is.

Re: Free Agents
Tarence really was.
to end the 06-07 season, the grizzlies gave Kinsey some run (35+ mpg) and the undrafted kinsey avg about 20+ PPG & 10+ RPG at the SG slot for a stretch of a good 10-12 games. he guarded KOBE BRYANT to a 7-for-26 shooting night and a Memphis win over the Lakers.
then to start this season he gets ZERO PT, and is subsequently waived. terrible decision by the grizz.

Re: Free Agents
Anyone think Ryan Gomes could be a nice fit at the 3 spot? Solid body, plays a bit like a 4, is he too much of a tweener?
