Re: Chuck Swirsky leaves Toronto for Chicago

Could this be the return of John Saunders as the main play-by-play man?

Re: Chuck Swirsky leaves Toronto for Chicago

I was shocked to hear Chuck was leaving. By his last blog you can tell if it was up to him, he would have stayed with the Raptors. Hopefully these "family considerations" aren't too serious. I just hope we can find a replacement half as good as Chuck.

How is that different from Antonio Davis?

So much for loving Canada so much.
In terms of being someone that wants to live closer to home and have family that wants to live closer to where they have more acquaintances, then yes, he is the same as Antonio Davis. In fact, a lot of people share the same type of sentiment towards familiar surroundings that they have lived in for a long time. The only reason why people reacted negatively towards Antonio Davis was because of the statements he made towards Canada and its education system, Chuck on the other hand has nothing but good things to say about Canada.

It's not like Chuck bounced on the Raptors at the first opportunity he had. The guy already lived in Canada for 10 years and signed a 4 year contract just last year. If he wanted a radio job somewhere in the states or if he even wanted a TV analyst job I'm sure he could've gotten it many times already. I don't think it is right to criticize his decision and question his honesty towards the fans when nobody knows about the entire situation with his family. Chuck has worked hard at his job and had a great relationship with the fans (I don't know which other TV analysts replies to almost every fan email), people should at least show him respect when he leaves and not just try to make something up to discredit either his affection for the country or for the team.

At the root of this train of thought lies the inferior complex of Canadians. Whenever someone from the US leaves Canada to go back down south the first reaction of any Canadian is to feel infuriated as if the guy left to go to a better place. To me, that is the part that's lame about some of the responses I see in this thread.

I'll miss him. Chuck won't be easily replaced.

Long days and pleasant nights Chuck.
