B.C to offer Bosh a contract extention this summer
TORONTO (AP) -- Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo will offer forward Chris Bosh a contract extension this summer.
Colangelo hopes an uncertain economy will be enough to keep the four-time All-Star off the open market and with Toronto for as many as five more seasons.
Bosh has two years and approximately $33 million remaining on his current contract, but can opt out after next season, joining a hotly anticipated group of free agents that could include LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Amare Stoudemire.
Re: B.C to offer Bosh a contract extention this summer
Only way Bosh takes the contract extension is if the team picks up a big name in the offseason via the draft, trade, or free agency. Like if we landed Blake Griffin, traded Bargnani for a top wing scorer, and added a Ben Gordon, Bosh would re-sign for 5 years at 16+ million per.
But that would require a lot of breaks falling our way.
Re: B.C to offer Bosh a contract extention this summer
Colangelo also addressed the coaching staff. It sounds like Triano will stay in some capacity, which is okay with me. Hopefully, the rest of the staff gets canned, though. A new head coach needs to be brought in, as well.
As for Bosh, I don't expect him to sign this summer. Colangelo can't be hamstrung by that; his obligation is to the team, not Bosh. Therefore, if the right deal comes along, he needs to make it.

Re: B.C to offer Bosh a contract extention this summer
Colangelo said himself that he expects Bosh to reject the extension offer this off-season.
With that said, when Bosh becomes a FA in 2010 (if he finishes 09/10 on the Raps), he can sign a 6-year max deal with the Raps as opposed to only a 5-year max with another team (also gets a higher % annual increase per year if he signs with the Raptors). Because of this, BC said that even if Bosh doesn't want to stay in Toronto, he'd be a legitimate sign-and-trade piece by signing the 6-year deal with us and promptly being traded.
Also discussed
- Attempting to re-sign Shawn Marion or use him in a S&T, does not plan on letting him walk
- "Advising" Calderon to skip all prior engagements to FIBA and/or Spain in order to stay healthy
- Re-Signing Anthony Parker (AP expressed intent to remain in Toronto market) and using him in a bench role
- Definite change(s) in the coaching staff, but not what coach position specifically

Don't see why it would.

i honestly don't see the point of keeping chris bosh as the franchise player of this team. the dude has no loyalty, so yes, sign and trade would be the best option since his value around the league seems to be overinflated. he was never a franchise guy but got the benefit of being one because the raptors needed a star to market toward season ticket holders. for anyone who knows and plays basketball would know chris bosh's impact on the court is not up to par with his reputation around the league, especially in the playoffs where he's disappeared.
Lebron is such a joke. He saw how much everyone loved Dwight and Nate's routine in the dunk contest and had to horn in on it and announce 364 days early how he would participate and get the spotlight on him. Then he wips it all up in a frenzy and backs out like a chump. I've been getting tired of LeBron's junk for a while now. This is just another reason to see this guy as a chump. Great ballplayer, insane talent, total chick.

i don't see the big benefit to cb of a 6-year deal. yes, its insurance in case he gets hurt, but being able to sign another big contract a little bit earlier should pay higher dividends, just like what's happening now/soon. the larger annual raise is works toronto's favour, but i think we're putting too much value on the 6th year.
