Who should take the game winning shot?
After seeing last night's game vs the Pacers, I did not like how we went to Bargs for the final shot. He is good in the catch and shoot situations, but not to create something for himself with 2 seconds left! My question is, who would you guys want to see shoot the ball in the final seconds?
If it was on me, I would have went with Jose or Kyle to take the final shot and not the Bargnani shot that had ZERO chance of going in. Last edited by REBEL INS; 11-01-2012 at 01:35 PM. Reason: SP |

Re: Game Winner Shot!
I think Kyle Lowry should be the guy at least 75% of the time. I do think Bargnani shooting over the 6-8 1/2 David West was an okay decision. West just did a great job covering Bargs.

![]() That was a brutal play call. When he is shooting as brutal as he was you do not run a play for him. 2 seconds is long enough to get a half decent shot up. That was just a terrible play call, and terrible execution out of a time out. We have 3-4 guys that could take the final shot, just depends on who's hot at the time. Although I feel Lowry has that ability to score with the game on the line. And its game winning shot, common.

Re: Game Winner Shot!
lol at John Lucas in the poll. If he is even close to the floor when the Raps have a chance at winning I will never watch the Raps again.

Re: Game Winner Shot!
I would have easily preferred Calderon or Lowry. But reality is I'm not too confident in them either yet, but more so than all the others. Truth is do we really have a definitve go to guy in those situations? Last year it never really mattered all that much anyways and in previous years it would have been cb4 or vc15. So great question ... Who do we really have ???
Guess that question will come up again and get solved throughout the season.

Re: Game Winner Shot!
They don't have a definitive go to guy at the end of games. But for some reason I just have more faith in Lowry. He just gives off that "I got this" demeanour.
But overall, with this team you have to go with the hot hand. And that definately was not Bargnani last night.

And I don't argue that would have been the right play call, buuuuuut after the 1st quarter Bargnani wasn't hitting anything. So I could have been guarding and he still would have missed. Jose+Lowry were the only ones that should have been taking the shot. And the fact that they had Jose inbounding the ball, common. Brutal play call for this game. Maybe not in the future, but no way Bargnani should be shooting for the win in that game. PS thanks for updating the title

Re: Who should take the game winning shot?
Bargnani is one of the better shooters we have, and given the matchup, you can understand why Casey went to him. However his shot was clearly flat after the first Q against the Pacers, he didn't have the legs underneath him, Casey didn't recognise this and still called for Bargs.
Lowry had been shooting the ball very well and should have taken the shot. For the rest of the season, I'm ok with Bargnani taking that shot, as long as he's been shooting the ball well prior.

Re: Who should take the game winning shot?
If Bargnani that shot you guys would have a totally different tune. Yes, Bargnani wasn't shooting well after the first quarter, but he's still one if not the best shooter on this team. I had no problems with him taking the shot. You make some, you miss some, that's how this game works. Lowry, Calderon or anyone could have missed that shot like Andrea did. It's a game of chances and Casey decided to give Bargnani the last shot and it was a good play call even though he missed it.

Casey should have called the play for Lowry, Andrea shoots the ball really well when he works his shot through his legs, at the start of the game when he was fresh he was doing this, later in the game his shot was falling flat because it had no elevation, due to his legs going. It's understandable given the fact he struggled with fatigue in preseason and this was the first game of the season. Coach should have recognised this and had Lowry take the shot. I'm not pissed at Bargnani in the slightest, Casey was out coached the entire game and when he had the chance to rectify his mistakes, he never did.

Re: Who should take the game winning shot?
thank you PP. I don't get how other people still say it was a good play call. I was never bashing Bargs, but instead the play calling by Casey

Re: Who should take the game winning shot?
If you consider the fact that the other team was probably anticipating Lowry taking that last shot and the fact that George Hill is one of the better defenders in the league it's not that bad of a decision to go to Bargnani. Barg had a 6-8 non athletic dude guarding him one on one. To make it seem like he had no chance making that shot because he had a poor shooting night is ridiculous. You're not asking Barg to run the New York marathon during Hurricane Sandy. You're asking him to hit a 18 foot jumper, even with fatigue and lack of leg or whatever theres still a decent chance for him to make it.

Whoever is open. You take the right shot every chance you get.

And yes, when you're not shooting well you will miss shots you would normally make. Basketball is a streaky game and you have to ride the hot hand. Not saying anyhting bad abouy bargs, but if you believe that ran the right play after watching the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter somethings not right. And I'm not hating on Casey I love this guy as a coach. He just called the wrong play.
