I'm torn on this move. Bringing in Gay brings us to the playoffs, but I don't think he is good enough to (or makes us that much better) to carry us past the first round. And it would kind of make us a treadmill team again.

I don't like the idea of moving Ed Davis either. Add on Rudy Gays' contract, I'd rather see if we can get young assests or picks for Bargs.

What do you guys think of a trade around Ed Davis + Jose + future draft rights for Gay.

I personally think this move would set the Raptors back, no need to move future draft picks, unless they're 2nd rounders. I really don't know how I'd feel if BC did this.

I think, like most free agents and teams looking to move players, we're just being used as leverage for deals they're looking at with other GM's. Memphis has no use for Ed Davis and we aren't going to trade DD, Hot Sauce, or JoVa. They certainly don't want Mago.

The Lowry trade made sense since he is still young and it looked like we were going to move Calderon. Now, I don't know WTF the plan is with him. I guess we traded a lottery pick for a backup PG? I don't see us making another similar deal for Gay or someone of his ilk because it means we've moved two young assets for win-now players when the rest of the team is still not good enough to compete for more than a very late playoff spot.

Apparently we're 2.5 years into Colangelo's current plan. How Nash, Fields, trading lottery picks and the rest are interchangeable in that plan I have no idea.

I completely agree with everything you said. And BC is alllllll over the map. Saying he's still in a rebuild? Didn't he just trade away a pick to get Lowry? If were are truely in a rebuild, who the hell trades draft picks.

I like the Lowry trade, but BC and his bullshitting is getting annoying.

Because we have a lottery pick outstanding to OKC via Houston; we don't have one to offer.

Honestly, I don't think the Raps are actually interested. Gay is owed almost $40m for two years and he isn't good enough to turn the franchise around.

I have to admit I'm guilty of not watching enough Raptors games this season. Ross is that good?

Probably just a guy that I like too much. But he has shown some flashes and complete games of great play. He definately has a nice looking shot, I believe one game he shot something like 6 of 8 from 3. And has shown very nice quickness on the perimeter defense, which the Raptors are lacking.

IMO he can develop into a consistant starter, or at least a pretty damn good 6th man.

When they are on the court they do seem to play better. It feels like DeRozan has more energy when he is along side Ross.

With JV/Ross/Derozan/Lowry as 4 of the starting 5, what kind of PF would the Raptors need to contend for a title down the road do you think?

Kevin Love or Blake Griffin. But thats not going to happen. Ed Davis + Amir have actually been beyond their expectations this year, and if they can keep progressing the Raptors should be a steady playoff team. But contenders is a long shot.

If they can keep this core together, and Lowry/DD/Ed/Ross/JV can keep getting better and learn to play off of eachother the Raptors are still missing a key piece to make them contenders.

With that being said Rudy Gay is not the guy that will make the Raptors contenders, and making a move like this will only hurt the Raptors in the future. Its makes them a treadmill team at best.

I just don't think this team has an elite skill. It's not shot-blocking or forcing turnovers or fg% or 3-pt shooting or assists or rebounding or...

Doesn't a team have to be truly elite in something to be a contender?
