The score means nothing when there's 60+ mins to play and one of your better players is sent off. If Roma hadn't won, it would have been a bigger surprise.
So, why can't you admit that Manchester played outstanding? It's clear they have good personnel and it's clear that Ronaldo is playing out of his mind. It's also clear they they were able to hang in the came in Rome even down to 10-men. A 7-1 demolishing was unexpected, yes. But it happened. And it happened because United were superior in every facet of the game. A combination of that superiority and a comically bad game by a usually technically gifted Roma squad resulted in the score.
If you're so cynical or anti-Manchester or whatever that you can't acknowledge the obviously better team then that's just sad. Slagging English football is one thing (esp. with the wildly disappointing national team) but you have to admit Manchester were clearly superior to Roma for at least 2 match days.

The referee in the Bayern-Milan game is terrible. He's calling everything Milan's way for some reason.

essien and shevchenko sure showed valencia (who are currently fifth in spanish league by the way - seems odd that the "2nd best team in the world" had so much trouble with them) how good english football is.

Did you forget that they already beat out Barcelona? Valencia gave Chelsea about as much of a challenge as playing Watford. The result was never really in doubt.

manU hasn't really been tested at all in champions league so far, their group was pretty easy, as was lille.

Lille beat AC Milan. And Roma beat Lyon who was a huge favorite to win it all.

if manU is really that good, how come they lost in roma, and were dominated in that match too?

Down a man and on the road in a hostile enviroment. We didn't have a goal today early either. Losing a man completely changed the equation. And we were still able to knick a goal, and could have very easily gotten another. We were clearly superior to Roma, and we proved it.
It's a good thing you're so down on Premiership football, because with the way Arsenal are playing, you won't be watching them in Europe next year.
Odds are good we are going to have ANOTHER EPL champion.

Re: 2006/07 Champions League Quarterfinal Leg 2
Milan went through because they hav a MUCH more capable midfield. Seedorf was again exceptional, not only with his involvement in both goals. Alhough I know it's a pipe dream, but Milan doesn't seem to be happy with him, I'd love to have him come to Bayern. Lell and Ottl are not international class and never will be, I'd rather have Trochowski back than those two. This team needs a major overhaul, unfortunately the wrong guys are going to leave (Brazzo and Hargreaves), but I hope the money of the latter one is going to be invested in a midfielder with at least an ounce of creativity.
I think Chelsea with their rather staitc play would have been a better draw for Milan, they seem to have only enough staymina for ~70 mins. Smith, Giggs, Saha, Rooney and/or C.Ronaldo are going to wear them down. Still rooting for a Milan-Chelsea final though.

Re: 2006/07 Champions League Quarterfinal Leg 2
yay, we somehow just owned this Munich team or i should say Pippo somehow owned this Munich team? haha Germany is clearly a great place for the Italians.
Seriously we always play good when people thinks we are underdog and Bayern Munich has nothing special to bring home, so is Owen Hargreaves. Is there anything special about him so you guys Man Utd fans dying to have? ah, i like Lucio, this man is good.
Well, we should have scored at least 4 or 5 goals if we executed well enough on the counter attack, we just basically gave the ball away when we had 2,3 men vs 2 Bayern men. If only we have Ronaldo..
So Milan will be "me against England" lol, the next game vs ManU will not be easy, the last time we met ManU was inexperience but this time we are 2 years older when ManU is much more battle tested. Dont know if our Accient guardian could keep up with Ronaldo.. But we are still the most consistent team in Champion Leagues, we at least came to the semi about 4 times in 5 years so we are basically like the San Antonio Spurs ( haha i wish).
And about the debate of EPL, ManU, Arsenal etc.. i dont want to join but I see one thing el_Diabo said is dead on

You are right, Seedort was exceptional but it is just one game in a loooong time, he played well in the opening season until the Inter game, after that game he just disappeared. If you want, you can have him haha

now where exactly did I say manU is not better than as roma? I don't think there is anyone on earth who thinks roma is better than manU after yesterday. the point was, and still is, the romans played so much under their own level yesterday, that I wouldn't draw too far reaching conclusions on the incredible result.
I just said manU haven't been really tested yet in the champions league. which they haven't. their group was relatively easy, as was lille. and enough has been said about roma. if you are 3-0 down after 20 minutes, you were clearly not ready to play in the first place, no matter how good your opponent is. and roma being roma, if you are 3-0 down after 20 minutes, you give up.
what I'm trying to say here is I'm not convinced manU is the best thing since sliced bread before they beat one serious UCL winner candidate in this year's champions league. milan would be one. just trying to keep some kind of perspective in this drooling frenzy.

ok, after that everything you say turned irrelevant. it could have been 3-0 after the first half and chelsea had no business being still in the game.

now this really is a bit too much. milan had already clinched the group win when they played lille - everyone knows italian teams don't bother in situations like these.. additionally the rossoneri are in so much better form these days than in autumn.
and in which alternate reality was lyon "a huge favourite to win it all"? they were favourites against roma, that's true. but it was only because roma is not that good in the first place. maybe if you had 8 huge favourites. and they do have houllier as a coach. which should say enough already.
lyon's status as some kind of a favourite really did play in to roma's hands though, nobody expected anything of them against lyon, or against manU at first. after the match in rome some people (me included, though that was more of a wishful thinking) started to think they could maybe slip past manU, but even that kind of expectations were too much for them africans. everyone saw what happened then.

I don't quite get this. it's not nice to put words in other people's mouths. I said financial power of the premiership is showing on the pitch and that premier league seems to be the top league at this point. if that's being down on premiership football then so be it.

Nothing special about Hargreaves, he's pretty much an above average player with great stamina. Seems like a rich man's Darren Fletcher if I say so myself. Not many United fans are dying to get him, that's more of the management's views on it, but I fully trust SAF.
Last time United played Milan you were indeed the better team, but you have to consider it could have been quite different if Quinton Fortune didn't screw up or Giggs shot didn't hit the post. Also RVN was injured and a young and inexperienced Wayne Rooney was playing up front against an inform Nesta and Maldini. Milan is a far weaker team than last time, Gilardino has been crap this season, and as you already mentioned I question the ability of Milan's defence to cope with our pace.
The midfield is going to be key, Scholes will be back, but Fletcher played well last game and this is the type of game where I would've love to have Hargreaves. We need a destroyer in m | |
