Re: UEFA Cup 2007/8

I didn't see any of the games today but it is a heartbreak losses for Everton and Tottenham, especially after winning their second legs as well. They were both up against two great GK's in Gomes and Frey respectively. Talking about GK's, that Schalke youngster Manuel Neuer is certainly gaining some attention after his performance against Porto, Steppenwolf is he going to get a spot for EC2008?

Getafe is riding high as well, knocking out Benfica.

Steppenwolf seems like you were right about Bayern's mentality, even though they dominated the first leg, they didn't take the second one too seriously.

Getafe is riding high as well, knocking out Benfica.

Well Benfica is living a inside crises and even with a 2nd Getafe unit on the field what Benfica played was a awful game.

Camacho left the team earlier this week and he pointed the lack of motivation from the players for he step down as Benfica coach,Rui Costa in his last year as a player is been under fire the portuguese media because he is been conected the reason why Camacho left as Benfica president already told everyone he will be under a great position inside Benfica when he retires(this season) and Benfica players what they are showing is that lack of motivation.

Re: UEFA Cup 2007/8

Didn't catch either of the semifinals today but wow, who would've thought Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg would be in the finals of the UEFA Cup. Zenit destroyed Bayern, 4-0 is a shocking defeat for a team like Bayern.

Re: UEFA Cup 2007/8

Bayern played pathetic, they were overconfident once again. You can't do the talk if you don't do the walk and overrating your own players isn't helping either. Rangers being in the final is a disgrace for the sport, probably the worst finalist this competition has ever seen. All they do is defend and they get so damn lucky that it's almost slapstick comedy to watch.

Re: UEFA Cup 2007/8

It's the UEFA Cup Final today @ Old Trafford, Manchester

Rangers have had a gruelling last couple of weeks, with games in SPL, Scottish Cup Final, and now the UEFA Cup Final.

Rangers have gotten a lot of negative press for their defensive tactics, which have proved largely successful but have not won a lot of fans. I don't expect anything different here tonight.

Zenit

Pavel Pogrebnyak, the competition's top scorer with ten strikes, is suspended after picking up a needless booking against Bayern, but Andrei Arshavin is back from his own spell in the sin-bin, as are Radek Sirl and former Rangers player Fernando Ricksen. Lombaerts and Dong-Jin remain out due to injury, although Dominguez is returning to fitness. Zenit's attackers tend to move with the ball and have a pacy dynamicism to their play.

Possible Starting XI (4-3-3): Malafeev; Anyukov, Shirokov, Krizanac, Gorshkov; Zyryanov, Tymoschuk, Arshavin; Dominguez, Tekke, Faizulin.

Rangers

The Teddy Bears will most likely line up with one up front as they look to defend. First-choice goalkeeper Alan McGregor is still out, as are Charlie Adam, Chris Burke and Stephen Naismith. DaMarcus Beasley, out since November with ligament damage, recently made his return to action and could be considered, as could Lee McCulloch. Kevin Thomson is a slight doubt. Daniel Cousin is suspended after his antics against Fiorentina in the last round.

Possible Starting XI (4-5-1): Alexander; Broadfoot, Weir, Cuellar, Papac; Whittaker, Ferguson, Davis, Hemdani, Thomson; Darcheville

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Zenit - Andrei Arshavin: Who else? The inventive playmaker will probably be given less space than he's enjoyed in previous rounds, but he will still no doubt be confident in his ability to fox the Rangers defence. Andrei, a St. Petersburg (then Leningrad) native, is eager to grab his first piece of continental silverware, and also to impress ahead of Russia's Euro 2008 campaign.

Rangers - Carlos Cuellar: Recently named the Scottish Football Writers' Player of the Year, Carlos has had a banner season in his debut Scottish campaign. It was in the UEFA Cup that he first caught the Gers' eyes as he defended against the Scottish side for Osasuna: he's barely skipped a beat since then.

Re: UEFA Cup 2007/8

Actually the final will take place at the City of Manchester Stadium.

I would like to say it should be a good one, but this is going to be a defensive slugfest. Hopefully there will be an early goal to avoid the stranglehold.

Come on, even a United fan has to admit that they have a nice stadium.
