Arroyo!

Let's hope that's a breakthrough-type game for him.

People always talk about a "breakthrough" or "breakout". What exactly does that mean?

In my opinion Arroyo had his breakout year last year. Didn't he have a really good game against the USA last summer as well?

He is not going to average 24 & 7 this year. 14 & 7 is all we need from him.

In a sense, last year was a breakthrough year for him...but maybe a brilliant Olympic performance could boost his confidence through the roof, and let him know that he's talented enough to take over games against the best basketball players in the world.

Well, I definitely don't want to rain on anyone's parade because I'm as excited as anyone about his performances.. But the thing is, it's probably not going to translate to a sudden huge jump in his NBA game. Carlos is 25 (past the point of "normal" development progression) and he was already very, very polished last year.

I expect the new talent will help Carlos out a lot, and if he's getting 30 minutes a night I would expect somewhere around 11/7 from him. He's so good at getting bigs open shots down low (making Santiago look like a non-scrub), and with Boozer being so good around the bucket, I expect Arroyo's assists to go way, way up.

The only other thing that would be a major improvement to his game at this point is if he keeps the weight off. If you saw him in the Olympics, you could tell he's a LOT skinnier than he was during the season and he plays with more energy and with a quicker step than he did last year. Let's hope he keeps it off.

Well I don't favor Lopez at all! I think Arroyo is underated league wide, but that's fine, when guys are underated they can take people by surprise.
When teams are practicing to play the Jazz they are gonna be thinking of what they can do to stop Boozer, Memo, AK, Harp, they are not gonna be thinking about Carlos and that will be their undoing

I agree there...but that performance showed me that maybe Carlos already has imrpoved...not necessarily that he will improve from this game. With new weapons in the offense next season, and a year of starting experience under his belt, I think he could have a very good season.

He had his breakout season last year, he will continue to steadily improve for the next few years though.. He is still only 25, which is good to know...

Yeah, I definitely think his ceiling is higher than a 12/5 player, there are just a lot of factors going into what kind of player he will be for us next season.. I think he is going to be a huge boon to Boozer's game in particular, because he's among the best in the league at finding the open man down low and Boozer can do nothing if he can't finish around the basket. How short of a leash will Sloan have him on, though? If he's allowed to run free, he has the potential to put up very, very nice numbers.. but will that work for this team, knowing the personnel? Kirilenko can work outside of a set offense, but you have Giricek, Boozer and Okur playing outside of a structured half-court set and I think the team suffers. If you have a team of athletes and great passers, you can utilize a free-flowing offense, but Arroyo and Kirilenko are the only ones who have the kind of ability to flourish in that type of situation. Will he come back to us the slim, trim Arroyo with a bounce in his step or the slightly pudgy Arroyo who at times just looked too sluggish to guard the quicker points in the league? How much progress has Raul made, and will he be cutting into Arroyo's minutes (many fans think he will be the eventual starter)?

Lots of questions, and I just mean that it's not reasonable to expect him to become a 20/9 player because he's playing well in the Olympics.. if he was a raw, 19 year old kid.. sure.. but he's coming up on his prime and to be honest there's not a lot of parts of his game that he can improve on. Anything more than 12/7 out of Carlos would be huge for us.

I am favoring him as he is doing better and better.
Jazz has now a new triple with AK,Bozzer and Arroyo after
Stockton, Malone and Jeff.
They will boost the next year.

Jazz are underrated Look at their team

Giricek is going to get better hes still young and hes already a good scorer

Arroyo no doubt will be a very good player and improve his numbers to 15 ppg and 7 assist

Boozer had a great Sophmore year hes going to progress

WHO KNOWS how good AK47 will be hes still young and the best SF in the world this guy is going to be amazing and I don think hes near his prime

Raul Lopez will progress

Harping will probably be healhy this year

Okur has only been in the league for 2 years and is already average player you know this guy is going to get good

Most people look at this roster from players of what they did this YEAR But the thing is ALL these guys are going to progress cause of their upside

Jazz at best - 5th seed in my opinion

Hey Jazz fans what would you grade Arroyo's 03 - 04 season for your Utah Jazz?
