Thumbs down Jazz win may cost lottery balls

Quote:
To the surprisingly lengthy list of basketball fundamentals that the Jazz just don't seem capable of executing properly this season, add yet another:
Tanking.
Tuesday's 90-79 victory over Portland is going to haunt Utah, you just know it will. Come May 24, the couple of dozen extra Ping-Pong ball combinations the Blazers will soon earn by slipping behind the Jazz will probably mean a lottery jackpot at the Utah's expense.
And if it doesn't happen then, it's guaranteed to burn the Jazz on June 28, isn't it? Portland will draft Sean May or Chris Paul or Andrew Bogut or somebody the Jazz desperately desire, one spot in front of them.
All because Jerry Sloan refuses to recognize the NBA's long tradition of sleep-walking into the lottery. For Sloan, it's 13th place or bust.
"The games are important," Sloan said, as though itching to debate the matter with the wake-us-when-it's-over Trail Blazers. "Regardless of what everybody says, I want to move up as high as we can."

Somebody stop that man.
Utah is still one game behind - or ahead, in draft-day parlance - the Blazers, but it appears that nothing short of forfeits, or making the Bear the starting point guard, is going to keep the Jazz from passing Portland's three-car pileup.

Re: Jazz win may cost lottery balls

The draft lottery has known to be very interesting either way...Thats why the NBA doesn't allow people from outside the league to watch when it happens. They could possible play a greater role then who exactly has the best chance.
