Thumbs up Adrian Dantley didn't talk a good game, he played one

SI.com: It might help your Hall of Fame bid if the Utah Jazz finally retired your jersey. Jerseys honoring Pete Maravich, Darrell Griffith, Mark Eaton, Jeff Hornacek, John Stockton, Frank Layden and soon Karl Malone all hang from the Delta Center rafters. But Jazz owner Larry H. Miller has refused to raise your number 4. What's up with that?

AD: It's his decision. It's his team. The only way you get your number retired is if the owner decides to do it. But he chose not to retire my number, so there's nothing I can do about it.

SI.com: If it has anything to with your contract holdout in '84, you'd think that would be over after then coach/GM Frank Layden fined you a symbolic 30 pieces of silver (for Judas-like behavior) and put you back on the court. Layden has even said he was sorry for trading you in the summer of '86 when Karl Malone arrived. But with Miller, where's the forgiveness?

AD: Well, that's what it was about -- the holdout. Malone held out about five or six times. So, what's up with that?

SI.com: Perhaps what Elton John once wrote of himself is true of the Jazz owner: Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

AD: Yeah, well, maybe one day.

Re: Adrian Dantley didn't talk a good game, he played one

It's a shame he didn't make the hall.

Quote:
Nuggets assistant Adrian Dantley knew last week he did not make the cut for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, but he couldn't comment until Monday.

The Hall asks nominees not to reveal their fate until the inductees are officially announced.

Dantley said he was not overly disappointed, but conceded the thought of possible enshrinement had been on his mind the past few weeks.

"During the week you think about it because people always come up to you saying something about it," he said. "But it's hard for that committee - whoever that committee is - to make a vote."

Dantley said he was especially happy for three friends who were elected - longtime NBA coach Hubie Brown, University of Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim - and said he would call to congratulate them.

Dantley's son, Cameron, will play football at Syracuse next season. "Hopefully my son can be on (Boeheim's) basketball team," Dantley said.

Quote:
Speaking to Denver's Rocky Mountain News, former Jazz executive and current Denver Nuggets assistant general manager David Fredman ripped the Basketball Hall of Fame for again snubbing ex-Jazz star and current Nuggets assistant coach Adrian Dantley.
"It's an embarrassment," Fredman said. "With the Hall of Fame and the selection committee, maybe it's time to review how they select guys. This is a travesty."
Dantley was denied admission earlier this week.
