Matt Harpring
Here's a good article on Harpring. Its about him being MIP. He's been playing great this year and has exceede any expectations for him.

I saw some quotes from the Jazz and media close to the Jazz that said the jazz would have drafted Harpring but he was taken before their pick. They thought that he would fit in well with what they do. He was supposed to be a player they were going to try to sign when he became a free agent. They thought he had talents that were being under utilized by the system of the teams he was with prior. It sounded like the Jazz coaches and mangement are pleased with his play but not as surprised as others are.

From the Salt Lake Tribune this morning

HARPRING'S ANKLE
Matt Harpring's right ankle was still swollen Sunday, and he soaked it in ice after sitting out the game. X-rays showed no break, but Harpring will have additional tests today. The Jazz forward said it's too early to tell whether he will be in uniform against Seattle.

Maybe I will hear more on the way home from work tonight on the radio. If so i will post whatever I hear

it didn't take a brain scientist to realize he was underutilized by previous teams. You just have to watch and see the positive contributions he makes to a team concept.

Latest on Harpring
Link to quoted article
Quote:
A sprained right ankle has the Jazz listing starting small forward Matt Harpring as "doubtful" for home games Wednesday vs. Seattle and Friday against Sacramento, but tests performed Monday showed no additional damage to the joint.
Harpring sustained the injury last Friday in Philadelphia, and did not play in Utah's Sunday win at New Jersey.
Reserve swingman Andrei Kirilenko started in Harpring's place against the Nets, and is expected to start again Wednesday.

I would be surprised if he doesn't at least give it a go against Sacramento. That is an important game.

Well, I hoped for a better game out of him, than 4 points tonight. Was he still bothered by the ankle? I am assuming that he was.

I think the Most Improved Player award will go to Gilbert Arenas for sure. While we all know that Harpring has done a great job in Utah, Arenas has the ability to put up 25 5 and 7 every night it seems.
Harpring is good, but Arenas is better.

Ricky Davis had the MIP award locked up until that bogus attempted triple-double attempt. He'll be lucky if he wins anything in the league for the rest of his career now. With every passing game, he proves just how much of a bum he truly is. Sad, really...back in November he was one of my favorite players. I was outright lobbying for him to be in the All Star Slam Dunk Contest, when he was putting up 40 ppg almost regularly. Nowadays, he's had almost a solid month of nothing but 4-15's, 3-9's, 6-23's. He's just a showboat, and now he's been exposed. He'll never win anything, or have the opportunity to win anything.
The MIP contest is virtually locked down to Arenas and Harpring. Arenas will probably win, on the sole virtue that he's easier to market than Harpring. If the NBA wanted to send a message, they'd give the thing to Harpring, a guy with solid fundamentals who took a paycut to play with one of the greatest PGs ever, as opposed to Arenas, who's really just a streetballer out there just to show off to other teams so he can make a quick buck next year. Gilbert's a great player, but I'd rather see a classy guy like Harpring win something once in awhile. It's not often in the NBA that classy guys win awards.

Don't be too quick to dis Arenas. He hasn't made a move for the money yet, but who could really blame him if he does? It's a shame that the Warriors cannot offer more. I would love for them to keep him and build up a playoff calibre team again. I think he has possibly improved slightly more than Harpring, but it's a close call.
I'd love to see a Jazz player win something!
