SALT LAKE CITY -- Houston Rockets center Yao Ming broke his left foot when another player stepped on it late in the first quarter against Utah on Monday night.

Yao appeared to be injured when Utah's Andrei Kirilenko stepped on his foot while the two were under the basket. Yao got the offensive rebound and converted the three-point play after Kirilenko was called for a foul.

After making the layup, Yao bent down and rubbed his left foot before going to the line. He left the game about a minute later.

Yao, averaging 22.6 points and 10.3 rebounds, had five points, two rebounds and a block in 8:31 before leaving the game.

Houston was already without leading scorer Tracy McGrady, who is out for the rest of the season with a back injury.

yeah Harp had a bigass black eye. tho Im glad atleast someone on the Jazz is willing to get physical.

I'm glad AK defended his teammate (though no doubt it was all just a terrible accident....). Can you imagine Stock, Malone, or Horny allowing some jerk to do that to one of their guys? Kirilenko did what he should've done.

I wondered that too, actually. Either Ming's soft as Kleenex, or Andrei jumped up and down on his foot half a dozen times with full weight and nobody noticed
