Robert Whaley, or: Bad Karma
Our wayward rookie, Robert Whaley, has his name in the papers again for all the wrong reasons. This time he didn't do anything to deserve it, except maybe be too accomodating to a relative who's got problems with the law.
Thing is, however the Jazz punished him (and Deron Williams) the last time there were hassles with the law, it didn't keep Whaley from making another bad decision. This time he let his half-brother hang out at his (Whaley's) house while he (Whaley) wasn't home. The cops showed up to arrest the half-brother, but said half-brother wasn't having any of that and staged a stand-off with the cops that went on for hours.
It's not Whaley's fault his brother's a freak...but it is his fault he left his home in the care of somebody who's likely to hold the police off and create a scene. Fact is, Whaley's been wayyyy more trouble than he's been worth, and he just doesn't make a good impression--not him, not his health, not his history, not his family, not his play.
Cut him loose for whatever you can get for him. Let some other team deal with his many problems.
Laurie

Re: Robert Whaley, or: Bad Karma
Trouble has followed him. Whaley got into that fight in pre season. He got in the fight with nugget fans at a bar with D will (I would of done the same thing to Denver fans if I would of been in his shoes). And it's not necessarly him, but it is trouble again. Is it 3 strikes your out policy?

Re: Robert Whaley, or: Bad Karma
Yeppers, three strikes and you're out. You wouldn't have to be out if you'd been healthy and working hard all season--if your play justified more chances. Fact is, Whaley hasn't been enough good for the Jazz to keep extending him more grace. He's been in trouble three times; the Jazz have punished him three times, but it hasn't stopped him from getting in more trouble before. Why would it help now?
We're not the old-time Portland JailBlazers (before they cleaned up their act). The Jazz stand for integrity and good citizenship. We don't need this kid screwing up again on Utah's dime.
Done is done. Unload Whaley before he's involved in something really serious.

I say you cut him loose and watch him end up in jail before long. Guy is a screw up.

Re: Robert Whaley, or: Bad Karma
Well, now the Jazz are saying Whaley's not responsible for what his half-brother did (which is true), but that he'll be "spoken to" about this incident. Question: How many times do you have to "speak to" somebody about his bad behavior/lousy karma before it either sinks in or doesn't?

This guy belongs in a cell. If basketball wasn't invented, he'd be in one already.

Betcha he'll be quietly traded away to somebody...Wonder how much the Jazz will have to pay for another team to take him?

Re: Robert Whaley, or: Bad Karma
We could bench him for 1 more year and he wouldn't be our problem any more. since he was a 2nd round pick.

Yeah, but do you want to waste a perfectly good roster spot on somebody you plan to have on the bench all season?

Like every season, we are already going to have people on the bench because of injuries. (owens, whaley, ect.)

Personally, I'd dump Whaley because I don't want the Jazz to be his team when he really gets into trouble. Secondarily, I'd dump him for whatever we can get to free up a roster spot for somebody healthy who can actually play.
Owens? Heck, get rid of him too while you're at it.

Get rid of Whaley, stick Owens in the D-League.
