AK 47: Why is he an unmentionable?
Ok, I know I am going to get the obligitory, "Oh no, not another AK47 thread. He's not getting traded, ok!?" reponse, but I am really at a loss as to how he achieved such a revered status. Do the Jazz intend to build their team of the future around him? If they do, I think they are in for a suprise. The guy is an excellent role player, an Artest type without the insanity, but role players, unless they are big men like Mutumbo or Wallace, are not built around, rather they are what is used to build around stars.
Do Jazz people see him as more than that? As a go-to player?
Why wouldn't the go for an offer involving a provenly healthy Fizer, our draft pick, and an Erob (replaces the athleticism) for Ostertag useless salery swap?
He would be the perfect compliment to our current cast of players, and would be alot more important to our team (future scorers aplenty) than their's (Harpring allready fills the role as a scrappy SF extrodnaire).

I like him too, and I'd love to have him. I'd rather have Harpring personally, but AK would be a huge step up.

Ahhhh. Let's see......
He has a cool nickname . Check
He looks like a cheesier version of Ivan Drago from Rocky 4.Check
He can jump through the gym which gives him the occasional spectacular block or dunk. This is very important. Check
Such occasional sightings of talent take on gargantuan proportions in our assertion of "he's all that " as we jump on the love train ( Toot toot ) as we annoint him ( or players like him ) the panacea to all our ills. The need to believe is very important. Check. Double Check.
Combination ... of reason above in the confusion of what we really need and what I call "the grass is always greener reason" - undervaluing our own talent in what we think we think we need when such player ain't necessarily it . Check mate.
Hey I like he with the head of a dunny brush as much as the next bloke ( blokette ) but friends we need a physical banging 3 who can muscle and hustle the perimeter stud
Please send one of :
Al Harrington
Eduardo Najera ( a touch slow but more than makes up for in heart )
Eric Williams
George Lynch
Matt Harpring
Ron Artest
Thank you .

miles is a poor man's kirilenko. just looking at the statistics ak wins out in all areas except assists and they push on boards. he's a significantly better shooter (.491/.410 fg, .800/.594! ft). ak has 3pt range (.325 on 100 attempts, miles only has 14 this year).
top it off with ak being 8th in the nba in blocks (2.19/1.03 blks), and has a slight edge on steals (1.48/1.00).
they both play roughly the same minutes, but considering that ak is the fourth option on his team, then in those 28 minutes he is an efficent player and more likely to contribute without having to have the ball as much. miles is only 8 months younger too.
i think combining ak w/ tyson would anchor a tall, speedy, and athletic defense that could cover large areas of the court. meanwhile jamal, jalen, and curry could concentrate on offense.

Kirilenko, or even Harpring would be a great fit.
I would easily give Williams and our draft pick to get AK47.
I might even trade our draft pick or Jay for Harpring. What other good, defensive, physical SF's are out there?

How about Stephen Jackson or Bowen from the Spurs? Eric Williams from Celtics, or the other Williams in Philidelphia. Jumaine Jones-Cleveland? The FA market may dry up for Corey Maggette if all the Big man get signed up first. In that case, get him and his strong D.

AK47 is a stud...
But I think the Jazz would definetely trade him for Fizer, ERob, and your draft pick...or Jay Williams and the draft pick.
But Kirilienko is better than you think he is. He's got legit SF size, but can D-up agains and 2 in the league...which is very important in a guard dominated league. He brings an athletic intangible which allows him to get a few extra blocks/steals/boards/dunks a game, which is very important. His jumpshot is improving, but more importantly he gets to the rim. He takes a large amount of high % shots...he leads in the NBA in points-per-shot.

Here are some reasons I think he is close to untouchable.
He is only in his second year in the league. He has improved and will continue to improve. He has shown that he works hard, has a great attitude, is more a team guy than player that worries about his stats. He fits in well with what the Jazz are trying to do. When you look at the Jazz they are a team that overachieves. They are better than the sum of their parts. The fans love him. He provides tremendous energy and makes big plays that get the fans into the game. The Jazz might trade him but it would have to be for a proven player that they have wanted for a while. I don't think they will trade him for draft picks or players that haven't lived up to their potential yet. Their would have to be an impact player coming from the other team.
