Kirilenko 3rd in League Defense

April 27

Quote:
According to results of an NBA-conducted survey of general managers from throughout the league that were released Wednesday, Jazz swingman Andrei Kirilenko finished third behind winner Ben Wallace of Detroit and runner-up Bruce Bowen of San Antonio as the GMs' pick for top defensive player this season.

Deseret News
That sounds about right. Wish I didn't despise Bowen so much.

I think if Ak played for a team that got as much publicity as Detroit or San Antonio he would be #1.

Maybe, maybe not. However they're ranked, those three are the best defenders in the League.

Walace is averaging less numbers. Walace basically is good for rebounds, I rather have an AK on my team over Ben Wallace any day. Bowen basically did what raja has done only gets more publicity. Raja plays hard on body to body defense and it pisses off the star 2 guards. That's why I wish the jazz would of tried harder to keep raja, he has been underrated until these playoffs. The jazz are like a .650 - .700 team when Kirilenko plays, and a .250 team when he doesn't. To me that is a bigger impact in the season than shutting down 2 guards or rebounding. Kirilenkos defense is planned ahead by the coaches of the other teams. How many players can you say that about? Kirilenko is also the 4th player in NBA history to average at least 15/8/4/3 in a season.

1) You're preaching to the choir. I know how good Andrei is.

2) I wish we could've kept Raja too. But since he left for Phoenix within a couple hours of the time he was permitted to, we can assume that was a done deal long before other teams should've actually been talking to him. Steve called, and it was over with.

3) Bowen's not a stat-packer like Kirilenko, but he's tougher all-around. I'd be hard-pressed to choose one over the other.
