Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
Utah will have a sensational and tall backcourt with the addition of Brewer. He plays great defense and should be a Sloan type of guy. He can also pass fairly well.
All in all a good consolation for not getting Reddick!

Plus, SLC's pedestrians are now a lot safer. But my dream of SLC becoming a poetry slam hotspot has just fallen through.
On a serious note, I'm thrilled right now. Didn't think Brewer would be around, and I agree with the "Sloan type" statement. Very good pickup for this team.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
I'm sorry, I have to say I'm disappointed as hell with this draft for Utah. Saer Sene...Who'da thunk he'd go so early? And Reddick? Guess Utah's drivers are safer without him, and he won't be reciting his poetry in Liberty Park on Saturday afternoons, but damn....We sure could've used him bigtime.
Nothing against Brewer; I'm sure that with Sloan to teach him he'll be fine. Just initially, I'm really disappointed.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
I was hoping for Redick, but he's gone and there wasn't anything the Jazz could do about it. I know Im stating the obvious. but I think Brewer will fit the system great.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
I actually liked this draft. Brewer will be good, and we got dee brown in the 2nd round (who woulda thunk). Those 2 are great selections for what we had left on the table. With sene and redick gone, it was very logical to take the next best SG available. Brewer dropped that far, and i am glad the sixers didn't take him before us.

the northwestern division is going to be a real battle this season and talking about dernver trading kmart for iverson with some money is going to spice it up a notch

I just now read this post. Interesting that we both thought of drunk driving and bad poetry.

Philadelphia couldn't be that stupid. Yeah, I know it's Billy King and all, but it would take brainlessness on the level of Isaiah or McHale to do that trade.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
Brewer is definitely a steal at #14. The Jazz now have an excellent starting lineup of Deron/Brewer/AK/Boozer/Okur. If everyone is healthy, there's no reason why they shouldn't make the playoffs.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
The only problem is Brewer needs the ball. He might be better off with a shoot first guard instead of a playmaker.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
I said a few weeks back that this would be a brilliant pickup for us in the draft.
I think our 'desperate' need for outside shooting is a little overblown. From watching us play, I'd imagine we're in the lower echelon of the league in terms of 3PM, but at the same time, we don't shoot many 3's either...it's really not a critical part of our offensive system. Could we have used Redick's shooting? Of course. We do need shooters. But that's just one of the things we needed. At the same time, we don't shoot a lot of 3's, and make no mistake about it, Gordan Giricek and C.J. Miles can flat-out shoot the basketball, and Deron Williams's shot is always improving. Having Giricek and Miles in the lineup next year will help out a lot.
Heading into the offseason, I thought we needed these things, in no particular order...
1.) Athleticism in the paint
2.) Athleticism and the 2 guard spot
3.) Shooting
4.) Another ball-handler
5.) Somebody who can create their own shot off the dribble/attack the rim.
Had we picked Sene, 1 would be taken care of. Redick would have taken care of #2. But I love the Brewer pick because he fills a lot of our needs. He's a real thoroughbred type of athlete, and tested as the #2 overall athlete in Orlando. He'll make an impact right away defending on the perimeter, which is a big need for us. Kirilenko is a great defender, but he's best in the paint and in the passing lanes...he's not laterally quick enough to guard the opposing SG one-on-one 25 feet from the basket. Likewise for Harpring. Brewer gives us the ability to aggresively defend these types of opponents. Offensively, Brewer helps take care of needs 4 and 5. He likely won't be running the point, but he'll take some pressure off of Deron because he can handle the ball, and create open baskets for teammates with his passing ability. He'll add that attack-the-rim dimension that we simply don't have on offense...he's a really good ball-handler, and his first step isn't talked about much, but it might have been the best in the draft. He'll be able to penetrate into the paint and make some things happen.

Re: Ronnie Brewer is a steal!
Brewer just fits in more of our needs than redick. Redick would be a shooter and not be able to do much else. Brewer can do multiple things. The more things a player does, the more vaulable he becomes to a team. Use kirilenko as an example to this.
