Re: Deeeeeeeeeeeeee For Threeeeeeeeeeee
These last 2 draftings for the jazz have been great!
Williams and Miles
Brewer and Dee Brown
KOC might be crawling out of his bad draft pickings. Or maybe he has had more help in making the right decision in the last 2 years from someone.

Love what the Jazz have done and I think I rightfully give up the NW from the Wolves to the Jazz

Re: Deeeeeeeeeeeeee For Threeeeeeeeeeee
Too bad we couldn't steal luther head from the rockets. I would offer Giricek and Brown and a 2nd round pick or something like that. By the jazz getting Dee Brown, it makes Williams job easier on signing the contract on the dotted line for an extension in 3 years. I think we just gained a lot of support from the illinios fans.

I'd give more than Giricek, Brown and a 2nd round pick for Luther Head. Maybe we still get lucky and pry him away from them somehow.
Assuming Deron and Dee actually get along well, you're right: It'll be easier to re-sign Deron when time comes. Hopefully Deron's not at home tonight watching the draft, cursing as we took Dee Brown "Oh, God, I hated that kid all through college, and now...."
Agree on the Illinois people. I have a friend in Phoenix--loyal Suns fan--who graduated from Illinois many years ago. He started liking the Jazz last year. Now he's a solid Jazz follower, though I'm sure he'll never stop loving his Suns.

NBA DRAFT: Illini's Augustine, Brown go in second round
By Lori Shontz
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/29/2006
The Jazz chose Brown with the 46th overall pick. Again unlike Augustine, who knew the Magic were impressed with his workout, Brown had no idea the Jazz was interested. Even when he visited with Williams over the weekend, he said, the two never considered that they would play together again.
Williams, whom the Jazz drafted first a year ago, started 47 games, averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 assists and was named to the NBA's first-team all-rookie team.
"Deron's my favorite player, he always has been," Brown said. "He always worked hard. We form an even better combination together. It's always good. Deron's like my brother."
Multiple times, Brown called his situation "a blessing," but it was impossible to forget that he would probably have been chosen higher a year ago, had he not broken his foot in an NBA pre-draft camp and decided to return to Illinois for his senior season.
"I can't be mad," Brown said. "There's a lot of great players in the world, and to be in the top 47 in the best league in the world, it's just a blessing."

Jazz reunite Williams with former Illinois teammate Brown
By Loren Jorgensen
Deseret Morning News
Thursday, June 29, 2006
Moments after it was announced that the Utah Jazz had selected Dee Brown with their first of two picks in the second round of Wednesday's NBA Draft, Deron Williams — last-year's No. 3 overall pick — was on the phone to Jazz trainer Gary Briggs.
Much to Williams' delight, he and Brown were once again teammates.
The backcourt tandem that came painfully close to winning the 2005 NCAA tournament — losing a hard-fought championship game to North Carolina — has been reunited, at least for the time being.
"I know those two played pretty well together," said Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor. "I think (Deron's) really happy. I know those two guys were close."
Brown is listed at 6-0 and isn't a true point guard in the mold of Williams. Still, O'Connor feels he may well be able to contribute to an NBA team.
"Is he tall enough to play 35 minutes? Probably not," said O'Connor of Brown. "Is he tall enough to play? Yeah."

NEW TODAY: Jazz's second-round picks come from familiar places
NBA draft
By Phil Miller
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 06/28/2006 11:00:01 PM MDT
They already rank among the greatest draft picks the Jazz have ever exercised - a guard from Illinois and a power forward from Louisiana Tech.
So why not try it again? That's what Kevin O'Connor did with Utah's back-to-back selections in the second round of Wednesday's draft. The Jazz acquired 5-foot-9 Illini guard Dee Brown, Deron Williams' old backcourt buddy, at No. 46.
Brown may be short, but he makes up for it with speed and energy, in the mold of Denver's Earl Boykins. "He's one of the quickest guys" in the draft, O'Connor said. "Is he tall enough to play 35 minutes? Probably not. Is he tall enough to play? Yes. ... Guys like this just find a way." Brown averaged 13.4 points at Illinois, and was a 36 percent three-point shooter. With Williams and Luther Head already in the pros, Brown's senior season was more difficult as defenses focused on him, and his shooting slumped to 35.9 percent. "It scared some people off, which is how we ended up with him," O'Connor said. But with a championship caliber team around him in 2004-05, Brown hit 49.9 percent of his shots, and 43.4 percent of his three-pointers.
"He brings energy to the game every night," O'Connor said.

Great steal. Shame on everyone who passed him over in the 2nd round, including my Sonics.

Take 2: Illini duo reunited in Utah
Brown joins Williams on Jazz; Augustine to Magic in 2nd round
By Neil Milbert
Tribune staff reporter
June 29, 2006
After spending a year apart, Dee Brown and Deron Williams, who gave Illinois the best backcourt combo in the Big Ten from 2002-05, are going to be reunited in Utah.
For Brown, the exhilarating prospect of playing with Williams again offset the disappointment of being selected 46th overall in Wednesday's NBA draft.
"Deron is my favorite player," Brown said. "Deron is like my brother. It's a blessing to be in the backcourt with him again. Jerry Sloan is a great coach. No matter how far I dropped, it's just a great opportunity.
"Of course, I feel I'm the best point guard in the draft. My resume speaks for itself. I was the winner of the Bob Cousy Award (as college basketball's best point guard in 2005-06). I have high expectations. I have an opportunity now and I'll take full advantage of it. I love the situation I'm in."
