Jazz stay quiet about investigation

Posted: 12:27 PM- Utah Jazz players, coaches and staff declined to comment before Wednesday morning's practice on reports of an alleged incident at the Portland-area hotel at which the Jazz were staying last weekend.

The team did, however issue a statement: "There is an ongoing investigation by the Portland police department concerning the Utah Jazz. The players and staff of the Utah Jazz are fully cooperating with investigators. At this time, the team has no further comment."

The names of players questioned by Portland police are not known. An incident allegedly took place at the Rover-Place Hotel, where the Jazz stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights prior to Monday's exhibition game against the Trail Blazers.

The Jazz play their final exhibition game Thursday night against Indiana.

Jazz players not suspects in alleged assault, Portland police say

Police in Portland, Ore., said they have no reason to identify players for the Utah Jazz as suspects in an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a hotel in which the team was staying.
Investigators questioned several Jazz players on Sunday, describing them as "fully cooperative."
"We have no reason to identify them as a suspect of a crime," Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Brian Schmautz told the Deseret Morning News on Wednesday.
Officers were called to the RiverPlace Hotel on Sunday about a woman in distress. The posh hotel on the banks of the Willamette River is the same place where players for the Utah Jazz were staying before playing the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.
Police said the woman is not cooperating with investigators.
"We have a person who appears to have gone through some type of problem but doesn't want to cooperate and tell us what it was," Schmautz said. "What we do in these situations is talk to everyone we can and gather any evidence that we can."
Those questioned included several players for the Jazz.

Apparently several Jazz players visited one of Portland's fine clubs and brought a stripper back to the hotel room with them, and that's the woman alleging wrongdoing. Not sure I believe her, based on her lack of cooperation with the authorities, but doesn't exactly shine a positive light on some of your players.
