Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

So I've been thinking lately. With our core players (Williams, Kirilenko, Boozer, Okur), that makes up a good chunk of our offense. However, I've been thinking that we also have a ton of guys that could light it up given any circumstance, so long as they get enough touches.

Here is the theory and an explanation for our last two hugely scoring games (put up 120 twice in a row for the first time in almost 6 years)

Deron Williams will average about 15 PPG this season, Kirilenko 17, Boozer 18-20, Okur 15-17. Put all of that together for any given game, and that's about 65 points per game.

So... what happens when guys from our bench get off during a game?

We have Brewer who could go for 15 any given night, Fisher could drop 20, Harpring can score as much as 30 in a night if his midrange game is going, Giricek could easily put up 15 in a game, and not to mention the 3-7 point chippers such as Miles, Araujo, Collins and Millsap... all of whom could easily go for 10 on a night, with, I think, the exception of Araujo.

So that leaves every person signed to a contract... 12 players out there that can easily score 10+ points in a night.

Really, when our bench hits the floor, we really don't lose all that much offense. If the Jazz play good defense this year, then our offense is really a scary thing to look at. On any given night the Jazz could have 5-7 players in double figures scoring-wise, and I think scoring 100+ will be a regular occurrance.

Assuming that we have the guys to light it up on offense, we have a team full of Juggernauts, and it will be defensive hell for teams to try guarding us when we have 3, 4, 5... 7, EIGHT guys going off in a night.

I think this would also explain the back-to-back 120-point outings and complete blowouts we've had for the final two preseason games.

Anyway, I got all of this idea thinking when I was playing NBA Live and CJ Miles scored 17 in a quarter.... then I realized that he was at the bottom of my bench!

Re: Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

Good read.

Sloan did something crazy, he actually let the jazz push the tempo of the game. They just dominated. Who cares if the other team scores 98 when you are scoring 120. I think we will have a lot of games over 100. Our defense needs work, but we are set on our offense.

Re: Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

While interesting to read, I don't agree that we lose just a little offense to the bench. We lose a lot. What I see out of the first unit, especially the big four, is a team unit. A machine. I see the second unit as guys that can play, but aren't a unit like the first team is nor as versatile.

I do think it'll be a solid offensive team. Depends on injuries of course and how long Sloan decides to keep the offensive team in.

Re: Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

Well, we lose offense when the interior players come out, but the perimiter players... not really. Williams, Brewer and Kirilenko are about as much of an offensive machine as Fisher, Giricek and Harpring. They ARE better, yes, but compared to other team's second units and really just those 3 bench players' potency to score doesn't leave much more to be asked for.

Really if you have a good attack, whether it be from the perimeter or inside, you don't lose offense just because 5 guys who can score the ball are not on the floor. You see what I'm saying?

Maybe I am just delerious because of how much more depth we have this year compared to years prior.

Re: Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

Also beware that I have Rawse, forum moderator, now trolling my *** because of this post and claiming things that have never happened. I guess moderators can now break the terms of usage and not have anything done to them... as well as harass somebody constantly, and make assumptions, all while trying to make me look like an idiot.

Just thought I'd forewarn you all in case he comes in here spewing his garbage.

By the way, is there a way to report a violation in the terms of service, or is this one of those things where a moderator can be a dick all he wants and have nothing done to him - AKA abusing his power??

Well, doesn't look like you were too wrong about your predictions.

Re: Jazz - offensive Juggernaut?

The team has created good offense, and the coach can't help but make his team play decent defense.
