Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
I really can't comment on how this game will go down. The Suns are the obvious favorite because they are expected to be a better team. If the Suns' 3-ball isn't falling (as in lower than 25-30%), the Jazz are going to win this game.

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
Wow, Jazz up by 9 with about 1:30 left in the 1st.
The offensive weapons sure are showcasing themselves. The defense is also looking really tight, too.

Giricek is getting hot. I'm telling you, he's good to have when we need to close a lead.

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
Damn skippy.
Solid win.
Fisher was the difference here. Would have been a loss last year.
EDIT: I saw that odd defense U17 for the first time. I'll post on it later. More of a 2-1-2.

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
Yeah, I saw that defense in the preseason and commented on it as soon as I got home.
Theoretically, it could be a really great invention by Sloan. I guess we'll see.

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
The Utah frontline is downright scary...
Really, the only guy who didn't have a good game was Miles - and that was more than offset by Harpring, Fisher and even Giricek.

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
Wow. Good win for Utah. Not such a good game for Phoenix, when all was said and done. Could've gone either way, but it's going to take some time for the Suns to get properly into their run-n-gun thing.
Wonderful to see Matt Harpring playing so well. All of them, really, even Giricek, whom I usually think is a waste. Speaking of him being a waste, did anybody else notice Sloan's comment in the Deseret News about Giri not working hard enough to deserve to play, and how he has a lot of talent but wastes it? Man, Sloan just doesn't pull his punches, does he?

Re: Game 2: Jazz vs Suns
Well, I've made my rounds around where I go after a Jazz win.
That defense, when I first saw it, instantly recognized zone. It struck me as odd after a split second because the Jazz weren't gaurding the perimeter in the normal way a 2-3 does when one or none are in the paint for the offensive team.
When that thought passed, I paid more attention to it and then said, "Is that a 3-2 zone?" The thought made sense as it was Phoenix, who is a perimeter team. I watched the rest of the possession and saw AK playing more like a matchup zone with the other four in box formation playing normal zone. It's like Jerry took the idea of a box and one and instead of having the one play a man, he has him playing a matchup zone in the middle of the zone.
I think it's a defense that will work if used in spots because it's confusing. If used too much, coaches will look to find exploits in it. It's not the standard 2-3 which all team practice for anyway. It looks really intuitive and looks useful against perimeter oriented teams. A good point guard should be able to break it, so maybe we'll see it more against GSW tomorrow.
EDIT: As a side note, Deron was about tied for my worst fantasy guy tonight, and he was 12-6. Joe Johnson had 30. Kevin Martin had 30. KG was himself. Kirilenko was himself. Bogut at 18-7. Darko 11-6 with a steal.
