What does it take to get respect for this team?
It seems like everywhere I read outside of this board, the Jazz were being listed as "not good enough", "no way they are a playoff team", "don't have the 'peices' to compete"... etc.
What the hell?
Even afterward I still see threads about how the Jazz are going to finally go down, for the past 2-3 games, and they still stand strong and win. Of course, the fans are still like "how did we lose to the JAZZ!?!?!" after the game is over.
Does anybody else find this annoying? I want to bring back old discussion just to tell them to not doubt a team that clearly has talent, because a lot, if not most people were completely wrong about this team. But I won't. I'm not out to brag, I just want to call people on their silly comments because this team gets very little respect, even after a convincing start.
Oh well. It's nice to know that NOW this team is getting respect, it just took beating 3 of the top teams in the NBA to get it.
Anyway, just thought I'd comment because I'm sure a few others here feel the same way.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
Three year history?
What have we done in the opening two weeks for the past threee years? Where have we ended up?
Other team's fans expect/hope their team to win. Hard to pick against your own team.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
It's not only that, the Jazz had some promising moments last season, but with a pretty shabby roster and with a lot of young or crappy players filling key positions.
This year's team, just by offseason moves, is so much better than last years (still got 41 wins), and I still heard comments all over the place about how we couldn't compete in this conference.
Last year we had MILT PALACIO starting games, Devin Brown competing with Giricek for a starting role, Boozer was out for almost the whole year, Deron was a rookie... etc.
This year we are legitemately 8-10 players deep, and all have the talent to play quality minutes. Even so far, Fisher has an on-floor +43 for the season... it's a hell of a lot more than McLeod, Brown or Andre Owens ever did.
This year's team just looks so much better than last year's, it's hilarious people were already counting them as another lottery team before the season started. Now that the Jazz are beating some really good teams, some fans enjoy the team and think they are a good team, others still don't expect jack crap from them.
Anyway, I just find it unbelievable how overlooked this team was from day 1.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
Give it some time. They've looked good so far this year, but they've looked good a times the past few seasons and not been able to keep it up (mostly due to injures).
My opinion on the team the last few seasons was "If they can stay healthy, then..." and it's kind of the same at this point. They're playing well, but since they've been down a few seasons (compared to other teams), they need to prove they belong in the argument.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
Yeah, I agree.
Though, the main point of it was how bad people thought this team was going to be, going into the season.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
For what it's worth, I did say on the Pistons/Jazz thread that I was convinced that Utah would give Denver a good fight for the Northwest, and failing that, making it into a lower seed (I didn't say that part explicitly in the topic, though). I don't see them as particularly strong contenders, but they should make the playoffs. It's been easy to write them off the last few years because of various injuries, but the frontcourt is all there and healthy this year, and the backcourt has solidified.

And we have all he key players signed for a few more years too. All of them will continue to get better because they are still young and not close to prime years.

Re: What does it take to get respect for this team?
I'd actually prefer it if teams continued to underestimate Utah, that way they can continue to work harder to prove teams wrong and establish themselves after 2+ seasons of strong play that they can contend for the championships.
