Gordan Giricek is on fire
This season so far:
11-14 FGs, 4-4 3pt.
He is also saying in the Tribune that he thinks the new ball is helping his shooting a lot more this year.
Not only have his shots been going in, they've been money. I think every one of his 3's this year have been swishes. He states that the new ball is very sticky when he catches it, and he lets his right hand do a lot more of the shooting than his left, so his shots have been dead on accurate.
On top of that, he's also limited Jason Richardson to 4-14, and Hamilton to 4-15 shooting. I know it wasn't all him, but his D looks fast and precise.
Do you think the Sloan comments in the paper roused him out of his chair? I know as soon as he hit the floor in Phoenix he was on fire, and brought us back from a big defecit.
Anyway, hopefully he can keep it up. He's had an excellent stroke so far, especially from 3. Perhaps he might establish himself as one of the better 3-point shooters in the league. That'd just give us yet ANOTHER weapon we could hurt people with.

Re: Gordan Giricek is on fire
If he remains to play like he is for the road trip, I will take back everything I said about him. I saw some of his Defense against the Pistons. I was screaming at the TV in amazement. It went something like this "OMFG Giricek is playing Defense!!! OMG!!!!"

Re: Gordan Giricek is on fire
Hahaha.
Actually, I never thought Giricek's defense was bad. He gets in front of his man and faces him up. The only thing he can't keep up with is really fast 2 guards, but they blow by people all the time.
If he stays hot during this road trip and plays 20-25 minutes, on top of his recent defensive efforts, the Jazz are coming home 7-0.

I would qualify Rip as a fast 2 guard that runs like crazy and uses screens like nobodies business.

Re: Gordan Giricek is on fire
The good thing about it is that there are two guys at his position who want to, and can, play his position. Hopefully that will keep him motivated.
He always could play defense. After the trade, his first game here was VERY good defensively. With Sloan, it's been not playing in the offense and lack of effort defensively. Giricek hasn't done either on the floor this year so far. These three games show that he can play great in the offense. It'll give Sloan fodder when/if Giricek goes off the deep end again.

Rip still does not attack the basket. That's where Giricek gets beat. Giricek had an advantage the other night because Rip is a jumpshooter, and Giricek can get around the screens and get a hand in his face due to the height differential.

True, but it is hard to stop a guard like Wade. Because he will drive and he will get fouled and he will score. It is hard for anyone to guard players like Wade.
