He ran a lot of the UCLA cut three man game on the wing and made passes to spots and not players. One of them was at the weirdest angle, but our guy got to it and scored. A couple turnovers on the same philosophy thought. Only Kirilenko would make those passes. Williams wouldn't make passes like that.
I love his passing game, maybe I can find the game somewhere... tonight he took a lot of shots, and they lost. But Warriors were playing a 1-2-2 zone, which seems to have interfered with the usual gameplan. Did AK force? Or did the Warriors just deny the rest of them, trying to make AK beat them?

Re: AK47 numbers down for the year?

The zone killed us, because Deron Williams is the only one tonight that any balls when shooting the 3 point shot. Everyone else hesitated. They were trying to force passes into the paint with 5 guys storming the ball. You can't get productive points out of the paint without forcing the other team to go to a man to man. The jazz should of just kept firing the 3 point shots instead of forcing it in for the TO.

Re: AK47 numbers down for the year?

When I read that they went to a zone I was very surprised to see AK taking 11 shots, while Okur only had 5.

Re: AK47 numbers down for the year?

Im looking for a big revenge game from AK. Kobe just outplayed him on both ends of the court.

AK didn't even guard kobe most of the game. Once Sloan finally put AK on Kobe as a desperation move, it was too late, kobe was already on fire.

OK, didn't see the game, but the recaps seems to hint that AK got burned badly.

Seems like his getting more involved lately though... good to see his assists rise, always found that his passing is an overseen strength og his.

One of the best forward passers in the league (up there with lebron), but that is if he doesn't turn it over. He throws way too many risky passes and that is a big reason his turnovers are high.

Re: AK47 numbers down for the year?

Actually just wrote an article on AK's struggles:

Quote:
Consider: Kirilenko is averaging just one steal per game which is the lowest per game average he's ever had in his six year career. In addition, he's averaging 2.6 blocks per game. For most players, that's not too bad. However, for Kirilenko, that is the second lowest mark of his career. As if that wasn't enough to ponder, he's also averaging just 5.5 rebounds per game which is the second lowest per game average he has posted in this category during his time in the Association.

The moral of this story is not that the Jazz are doomed if Kirilenko doesn't pick it up, because they're probably not. However, if they want to actualize their full potential and a have a legitimate chance to advance past Western Conference powers like the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs, they need AK to find his "A-game."
I'm sure Jazz fans won't agree with everything I wrote, but a little healthy debate never hurt anyone.

Re: AK47 numbers down for the year?

"In point of fact, he's gone 1-11 from beyond the arc since his return, and he's shooting just 29% from downtown on the season."

Last game he got 2-2 from downtown...

His numbers look bad yes, but you didn't mention that he also had an injury in the 1st month. That has hurt his averages, but not by much. I can't remember an early season that Kirilenko didn't struggle. He ends up getting injured some way or another and is trying to find his game. Once he does, he is a good player.

One thing to add, when you look at the stats from last year and player rankings, AK was apart of a lot of those. I saw several times he was ranked in the top 20 by a lot of "experts". This season, you could argue that Kirilenko is only the 2nd or 3rd best player on this team.

He may not be a scorer, but he sure knows how to do the little stuff that makes the biggest differences. He adds to the offense by passing, getting the offensive rebounds, and wearing out the other teams player that is guarding him. When AK is into his game he is practically running circles around the floor.

AK is a force near the paint, recently AK has had to guard players such as kobe, allen, redd, ect. He is playing more 1 on 1 than he usually does. He gets a lot of his stats from roaming around the floor going for the steal or the block in the paint. That is also where he gets his rebounds. His help defense is one of the bests in the league. He is a great help defender, and a good 1 on 1 defender.

I don't have a problem with AK taking a 3 pointer, just as long as he is wide open and is not being guarded. He can make those wide open 3's, but it's not good when he tries to shoot over his guy instead of driving to the basket.

Overall it was a great article, thanks for the read and thanks for adding to the conversation here by posting your thoughts and articles.
