Game 35: Jazz vs Mavericks
Quote:
Mavericks Look to Start New Winning Streak, Visit Jazz
The Dallas Mavericks look to bounce back after failing to match the longest winning streak in franchise history when they close out a grueling three-game road trip against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
Dallas (27-8) fell 101-98 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, snapping its 13-game win streak. The Mavericks took a 77-68 lead into the fourth quarter but surrendered 33 points over the final 12 minutes.
"We didn't have our normal fourth quarter," coach Avery Johnson said. "Everything we tried on them in the fourth quarter didn't work."
The Mavericks were on their second winning streak of at least 12 games this season and missed a chance to match the team record set during a 14-0 start in 2002-03.
Dallas has made strides on defense under Johnson, but allowed Los Angeles to shoot 54.9 percent - a season high for a Mavs opponent.
The Mavs' last loss before Sunday was a 101-79 defeat at Utah (24-10) on Dec. 11. Dallas shot a season-low 37.7 percent in that game, including a season-worst 15.0 percent (3-of-20) from 3-point range.
Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and 10 rebounds in the contest, but he was the only Dallas starter in double figures. The starting backcourt of Jason Terry and Devin Harris combined to shoot 4-of-16 for 12 points.
Harris was outplayed by Jazz point guard Deron Williams, who had 18 points and seven assists. It was the second time that the former Big Ten rivals (Harris-Wisconsin, Williams-Illinois) started against each other in the NBA.
The Mavs also had no answer for Carlos Boozer, who had 31 points and 11 rebounds. It's the last time Boozer reached the 30-point mark.
Utah won for only the second time in its last nine meetings with Dallas.
Dallas opened this trip by rallying for a 90-85 victory over San Antonio on Friday.
Utah is seeking to improve upon its NBA-best 14-2 home record and win for the sixth time in eight games overall. The Jazz won 96-84 at Denver on Saturday.
Williams matched a career high with 28 points and added 12 assists. He scored 22 points in the first half as Utah built a 16-point lead at the break.
"I was just playing my game," Williams said. "I felt good out there."
Boozer notched his 26th double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. He made 10 of 12 shots for his second-best performance from the field this season.
Despite Utah's gaudy home mark, Williams has struggled in Salt Lake City. He's shooting 39.8 percent at home compared to 52.3 percent on the road.

Should be a great game.
Boozer stats look impressive thus far. I'd be worried if I were Rawse.

A great game indeed. Big shot after big shot. The Jazz crowd really got it into it too. Boozer with only 3 rebs is pretty unusual though

Our crowd is always loud. There may be only 2 million people in Utah, but we support our team!
This game pissed me off, the refs had to decide it at the end. The refs sucked all game. They should just let the teams play!

Wow... I knew the nuclear dump is a difficult place to play, but the crowd was amazing! To have that kind of noise via TV broadcast is IMPRESSIVE!
The refs really should just let the two teams play, but, on the other hand, they would have killed each other.... literally.
Season series tied, and we'll try to match your crowd next game in Dallas.

Re: Game 35: Jazz vs Mavericks
Dirk Nowitzki is the biggest flopper in the NBA. God, I could not believe the calls Dallas was getting tonight. On two occasions I saw Dirk push his defender off about 3 feet extended from his body, and the defender still got the foul charged to him.
Devin Harris was also getting some really BS calls, too.
That, and bad execution down the stretch did the Jazz in.

LOL...
You are probably right about Dirk. Since Avery Johnson took over, Dirk's been coached into driving to the basket instead of settling for outside j's. As a result, he's been falling more and more these days. I see him on the floor probably 4-7 times each game.
I guess it could also be from playing San Antonio so much these past years and having an ex-Spurs as head coach.... Nobody "exaggerates" like Manu.

Re: Game 35: Jazz vs Mavericks
You guys, as sensible Mav fans can't honestly say that Dirk is NOT a flopper? It drives me crazy when a team plays 22 seconds of great defense, then Dirk bowls into the lane, runs into a 6-foot guard and throws himself into the 2nd row like he weighs 38 pounds.
If the game were on a re-run tonight I could compile the eloquently placed flops you guys ALWAYS get calls on. His annoyingly long hair and joints made of rubber also influence the refs a lot more than it should.
...Unfortunately the game was aired on FSN and won't be on re-run.

He does flop and so does Fisher, so what? It's part of the game now but hey... i am sure w/o the refs the Mavericks would have lost for sure right eh?

Fisher flops? I think I've seen him draw like 3 charges all year.
I just hate flopping in general. It's making the game annoying to watch when there is a flopper on the floor, getting calls left and right because of BS. Even if I hate both teams, nobody wants to see a flopper.
They need to make "intentional flopping" a violation that costs a team a technical free throw.
I never said it was the difference in the game, it's just really annoying to watch him play basketball like he is a 10 year old boy playing against his older brothers, and flying into the crowd because of incidental contact, or no contact at all.

Re: Game 35: Jazz vs Mavericks
The only player on the Jazz I would admit as a flopper would be Jarron Collins. And even then I hate his guts and wish he wasn't on the Jazz. I don't know what Sloan sees in him anyways.
