Would Jazz fans here trade AK-47 for a top 10 draft pick this year and filler?
There is a trade proposal in the Blazer Forum of AK-47 for the Blazers' first round draft pick and filler. The original idea included Travis Outlaw but he would be overpaid and a BYC player if the Blazers were to try to include him in a sign and trade so I don't see how that could work. The best match I can find for the salaries is LaFrentz or Miles and either Joel or a re-signed Magloire. Would people here do something like that?

Unprotected 1st rounder this year?
Yeah, I would. We'd get a serviceable player, hopefully unload a little bit of salary cap (remember AK is a max player) and a fantastic pick in a truly loaded draft.
If that pick struck gold and was top 2, immediately its priceless. If not and Portland picked around 8th you could still get a great player. Jeff Green maybe, Yi Jianlian, or somebody like Chase Budinger or Julian Wright if they came out this year. Or my personal favorite scenario, packaging that pick along with our own first rounder and a future first rounder, or two, or other players, or whatever it took, to move up and draft Brandan Wright. That young man will be a superstar and would be a great addition to our frontcourt which although productive is relatively unathletic.

the Jazz are turning into contenders..why look to the future when the present is so good?

First let me say I'm a Blazers fan trying to answer your question -- hopefully some Jazz fans will chime in as well. That said, earlier in the year there were rumblings about AK not being happy as the 4th option on offense. It's also true that he's been hurt for much of the incredible run the Jazz have had recently -- it seems like he's not necessarily a core part of the current success. And, he's been hurt as often as not recently.
A deal like this gives Sloan and company a chance to not only "look to the future" but to get potentially a very good player from this draft who'd be picked with a particular role in mind, based on the needs of the current core, rather than basically retrofitting AK back in.
If it's such a good deal why would the Blazers do it? Personally, I'm not yet sure I would in their place, but, at least part of the thinking is that AK would provide some of the "veteran leadership" the coaching staff's been asking for -- Portland is a very young team. It also seems like he might fit nicely into the line-up with Randolph and Aldridge. He'd also get more shots and PT in Portland (starting as SF and backing up at PF) than he has been in Utah.
It's a risk either way -- the rookie will be unproven and AK's a max player who's spent a lot of time in street clothes of late.

Re: Would Jazz fans here trade AK-47 for a top 10 draft pick this year and filler?
Its an interesting propistion, I expect the Blazers will pick 7-10th in the draft and there are sometimes gems that late. the though of getting a center like Pyzbillia or Maglore seems to intergue a lot of Jazz fans, but I however am not one of them. but the thought of having a good pick in this deep draft does interest me. answering your question; yes I would probably do that. This would give the Jazz a high lottery pick, a late first rounder; and a second rounder, all of which could be packaged with the Knicks first round pick to possibly move up and grab Oden or Durrant, if that scenario worked than this would be a great move for the Jazz and worth the loss of Ak.

I like the thought but it would take a HELL of a lot for us to trade up into the top 2...and still a very substantial amount to trade up to #3. I doubt anyone would give up the chance to draft Brandan Wright for something less than a legitimate star, and I doubt anyone would give up the chance to get their hands on Oden or Durant.

I doubt it. Kirilenko was one of our rare good draft picks, and the Jazz are not known to be a good drafting franchise. They've had some really bad first round picks over the years so in their best interest they'd probably pass.

I would do it if I was you this draft is meant to be deep.
Kirilenko is replaceable in the lineup.
