Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

6/8 FGs, 5/5 FTs, 17 pts, 2 steals

I still want to see his jumpshot (as he only attempted one), but he was schooling these guys at the rim, taking contact, finishing and hitting his free throws.

Here's a link to the game's highlights:

He could be the two guard the Jazz have been searching for.

Indeed. Although it might be a problem to have Kirilenko and him on the court at the same time.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

I've argued the same point about having him and AK on the floor. Really, any offense featuring two guys cutting at the same time is crap. They run plays using either of them (not both) running off screens and working it around.

And, nobody knows what Brewer or AK has done to their jumpshot during the offseason. Brewer's release looks okay, but he's only shot one. Kirilenko had a shot on Wednesday night that he just caught the ball and launched from about 20 feet out, and it was sweet. All net. Kirilenko is not a terrible shooter (at least he wasn't earlier in his career), and he's getting regular coaching with Jeff Hornacek.

I think it will be fine with both of those guys on the floor at the same time, mainly when running the break because they are both very good finishers.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

Ok, I know Brewer only went 7-16 tonight (which was actually just a little under 50%... maybe 44%), but in the first quarter he was at 1-8 from the field, with 6 rebounds, 4 of them offensive. Looks to me like he had one of those miss, get the rebound, miss, get the rebound, etc etc. But, after that point, he was 6/8 from the floor, including 1-1 from 3-point range (remembering that he was 0-9 last season).

Sucks that it wasn't on TV, but once again another scoring dominant performance from Brewer in this young season. I really want to see footage of this game, but I know nobody will have it as it was neither broadcast in Utah or Detroit.

Maybe this kid's for real, this season.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

I don't think he will ever be a star, at least not on a stacked team like Utah, but I see him as one of those role players which can be just as valuable for a team as a star. Not saying that he would be as good, but he fits a need, he does the little things you can't really teach anymore on this level and he has the potential to become one of the elite perimeter defenders in the league, if not the best.

Plus his mindset is positive and like you said he is an intelligent player.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

Go Brewer, Go! Great night tonight (Sat.) on the road: 28 pts on 10-12 shooting and 8 of 10 from the line. He also added 5 steels and 3 boards in 25 minutes of action, not bad. I know it's just a few games into the pre-season but his play has been very encouraging.

I wonder if he'll have the same success when Boozer gets back on the floor? It seems Williams, at times, looks to Boozer too much, or is that just a reflection of the only offense Sloan knows (Stockton/Williams-to-Malone/Boozer?)

GoJazz!

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

I've been a fan of his for a long time and thought the Jazz stole him in the draft - I thought he was easily top 10. His list of weaknesses is pretty small; it's nice to see him put together some consistently high dominance. I was surprised at his lack of p/t last year despite a very nice FG% and the athleticism he gives the roster. It'll be interesting to see just how much his production will improve this year.

The answer is Jerry Sloan. But according to some quotes by Sloan he has trust in him now which is a good thing.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

Brewer had 20 pts, 6/8 FGs and 4 steals... in the 4th quarter alone last night.

So far on the season that's 63% FGs, 2.3 SPG, 21 PPG. Not too shabby, eh?

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

This is really what was expected of Brewer. The guy is really talented. If he had ended up on a run and gun system, people would be raving about him.

Re: Ronnie Brewer looked very nice on Wednesday...

Admittedly, it's pretty rare for us to see rookies that we drafted (Williams, Brewer, Millsap) to have such a big impact on the team. As a Jazz fan I could never remember a time that we had 2-3 very good drafts in a row, and had rookies come in and contribute either as rooks or as sophomores. Brewer is quite the pleasant surprise this season as he is also developing a nice jumpshot (as he is 4-6 on the season with jumpers), and he is learning to be a good defender.

If this guy really emerges, and the rest of the young guys continue to develop (including Williams and Boozer), I believe this is the missing peice for a contending team in maybe 1-2 years.

These are very exciting times for this team, and this kid.

It is only three games, but the numbers are outstanding so far. He's also 89% on his FTs, not to mention he's getting all of those numbers in just over 22mpg - over 42pts/48min.
