18-35 FGM-A
3-7 3GM-A

51 points. tied a D-league record i think.
the Flash went on to a 118-116 double OT win.

Yeah man, I saw this. I wish I could have seen the game, which are usually broadcast on a local channel, but they were broadcasting college basketball instead.
I don't think anybody doubts that the kid is a great scorer, but I think defense is what we're all worried about.
Thanks for stopping by.

It will probably be very tough for him to get any minutes. Brewer has been coming along nicely and is the superior defender and Almond's scoring isn't really needed, the problem of the Jazz has been defense. Maybe he will see some action if Giricek gets traded.

Defense would definitely make the difference - but at a certain point, he'd learn better from going up against (and learning from) the guys on the team. He just needs the fundamentals at this point as far as the D League is concerned.

Re: Utah's Morris Almond Explodes for 51 points in D-League
I agree the Jazz need to toughen up defensively but if Almond could give them half that offense, even Sloan would have to take it, wouldn't he?? They seemed to be winning when they were simply outscoring teams.
The Jazz still need a consistent jump-shooter like Hornacek was; he wasn't great defensively either. Problem is, the little we've seen of Almond, he hasn't shown much on either end. He's a rookie with very little experience and Sloan isn't exactly known for giving many minutes to younger players. It seems Sloan has higher defensive expectations of the less experienced (and lower paid) players which isn't fair. I mean, it isn't like Booz or Okur are competing for the all-defensive team and Deron is just average, if that.
That's a great game and achievement for Almond and I'd love to see him get some experience and given a chance to contribute but I don't see Sloan allowing it, at least for the first year or two.

If Almond can develop the kind of help defense skill that Hornacek had, his scoring could make up for his lack of on-ball ability.

And to make matters worse, CJ Miles looks like he's shaping up recently.

No, that was easily the best I've ever seen him play. I think we've all known that he has the capability to do that, and is constantly renowned to be a practice all-star, but I think his head has a ways to go before he's ready.
That night was definitely a good showing of his ability, though.
