Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
Deron is a better defender a far superior shooter and an equal passer.. yet cp3 gets all the hype and deron 0.. hmm?

Chris Paul is more fun to watch, and he is a very likeable personality. Not saying Deron is boring or is a jerk or anything though. CP is also on the video game cover and has been one of the best point guards each year he has been in the NBA also. Another thing that really factors in, he is leading his team and they are a big contender for the number 1 seed.

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
Deron had a slow start this year, so ESPN has been all over CP the entire year.
I'll agree that the reason CP gets more hype because he has a more charismatic personality. Doesn't mean he's any better though.

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
Well you really have got to put things in perspective. NO should not be as good as they are right now, CP3 is mainly the reason for their success. Deron plays with a very talented group of players, that probably is why people the nod to CP3

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
Its not as if Tyson chandler, Peja , and david west are slobs. You have a former MVP canidate and one of the best shooters ever, a freakishly athletic young bigman and an allstar. With deron williams the jazz would be terrible, and its not as if the jazz are sucking it up with record either. They could easily bang off a winning streak and be in the hunt for the #1 seed. I think deron is the better player

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
Yeah but Utah is a the more complete team. peja is very inconsistent, one night, he wont miss, the next he can hardly hit the rim. Mo Pete has been sliding all season. Tyson is a defensive nightmare and a decent offensive player at times and david west is the only true other offensive threat he has to pass to consistently. meanwhile, boozer is as good as if not better then west and deron has guys like okur, as inconsistent as he's been is still a decent shooter and guys like brewer, korver, harpring, ak47, milsapp to pass too. paul, at one point, was working with ryan bowen and melvin ely as rotation players.
paul is not better by much but he is, in most minds, better overrall then deron

It can be argued that the same inconsistancies are felt from Okur and Ak47.. Plus with the trade of bobby jackson they have more depth.. I just don't buy the he makes his team so much better because without deron the jazz would be in the lottery.

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
stats wise Paul is also better. More points, assists, rebounds, as well as shooting a similar percentage. There isn't a significant difference as they are both very good point guards and the media doesn't portray the 2 as being that different. If you had to pick one over the other, you just have to go with Paul because he pretty much lead in every area of the game this season.

The media is fickle. Whichever of them goes farther in the playoffs will get the hype going into next year - which will then turn on whoever starts off quicker. Just like this season.

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
CP3 got 199 assists for the month of march and in an ESPN article it said that a player getting 200+ assists in a month had only been done 3 times in the last 10 years, and all 3 by Nash. Well guess what, Dwill got 213 assists for the month of march.

Chris Paul leads the league in assists and steals, gets more points and rebounds than Deron while committing less turnovers. Not only that, he is a better leader and the undisputed number 1 player on his team, which has a better record than Deron's.
Happy?

And yet, Paul only averages .9 more assists per game than Deron, as well as .9 fewer turnovers per game. And, Paul averages .9 rebounds more per game than Deron. He doesn't shoot as well, though he shoots more often - and he's called upon do have the ball in his hands much more than Deron.
Now let's look at the larger picture. The Jazz average the second most assists in the league, at 26.6 per game. That means a lot of ball movement, which means Deron giving up the ball so that the next passer gets the assist. That team offense is a significant reason why the Jazz are tied for the league's best FG% at .500.
By contrast, the Hornets are middle of the pack, at 21.6 apg. So, more than half of their assists come directly from Paul - and their ball movement is less than notable.
So you have two very different teams. One where ball movement leads to better shots, and more assists overall - but somewhat fewer for the point guard. The other team consists of an offense that needs it's PG to account for most of its assists.
Looking at that together, the fact that Deron is averaging as many assists as he is is remarkable - and more efficient.
The argument is by no means as simple as mentioning a couple of stats that are close to begin with.

Re: Why is cp3 better than deron williams?
^Great post, the differences between the two are so minimal, but I think because CP3 plays a more aesthetic style of basketball, the media and fans tend to migrate to him more so than Deron.
