Jazz @ Rockets (Round 1 - Game 1): Saturday @ 9:30 ET
@
Well, it's version two of Rockets vs Jazz. Will this series have as much excitement in store? Last year's first-round matchup between these two teams seemed to be the only close series of the first round during last year's playoffs, and the only one to go seven games. The series featured incredible momentum swings, heroic performances, defensive clinics and plenty of emotional moments off the floor from both sides.
For the Jazz, their biggest concern is keeping McGrady in check. Last year they did an acceptable job at doing so, and this time around Okur will have a much easier defensive assignment with Yao out of the mix. Still, the Rockets are a dangerous team and can really knock down the 3 with Battier, Head and Alston roaming the perimeter. The Jazz's biggest focus really needs to be on the defensive end. They've shown an obvious weakness against the Spurs during the last game of the season allowing a 70%+ half from San Antonio in the last game of the season. Deron Williams' injury also appears to be minor, but only time will tell the story to it.
Houston looks to bounce back in this playoff series but seems to be backing into the playoffs a little bit. Ever since the Korver trade, the Jazz have been on their way up, but Houston fell 4 spots in the West since they saw their 22-game winning streak end. Still, the playoffs are a new season and anything can happen.
Houston will undoubtedly miss Yao. They'll need a superior defensive performance by Mutombo, Chuck Hayes and Landry to keep Boozer and Okur out of the paint and off the scoreboard as much as they can. McGrady is going to need to absolutely take this series over and abuse whoever is being put on him defensively. Without the aforementioned, the Rockets could be in deep trouble, especially if Boozer and Williams play the same way they did during last year's series.
My Prediction for Game 1: The Houston Rockets' last loss before their huge winning streak was to.. yep, the Jazz. And yep, in Houston. I think this year is the year where the home team doesn't dominate, as both teams have won on each others' home floors during the regular season. I'd have to say that this begins the time where Houston really misses Yao as the Jazz will steal game 1 from the Rockets, 95-90. Look for Boozer to have a huge game, and for Okur to cause all sorts of defensive problems for Houston.

Boozer and Okur will find it easy pickings out there without Yao, so I too expect huge games from them. McGrady might go off as usual same with Alston so it's tough picking a winner.
I am going with Jazz by 1

Will Alston be ready to play in Game 1?

Even with the injuries, I'm expecting an exciting series. I've got the Jazz in 6.

Re: Jazz @ Rockets (Round 1 - Game 1): Saturday @ 9:30 ET
The thing that gives me hope is we have the forwards who can guard both Boozer, and Okur now. Last year, we only had Yao, and Chuck Hayes, which having Yao on a much faster Boozer proved to be a disaster.
Now we actually have bodies that can guard Okur out in the high post, and Boozer down in the low block.
So, maybe...kust maybe this could work.
But I doubt it

Re: Jazz @ Rockets (Round 1 - Game 1): Saturday @ 9:30 ET
its strange how this is a re-match of last year's intense 7 game series, but I can hardly feel any bad blood between us... I mean, just look at the Cavs and Wiz going at each other, and meanwhile all we have going here is McGrady saying "its hard to win in Utah, so the first game is important" and Sloan saying "its the playoffs, we need to take care of business".... yawn....
I suppose the bad blood will pick up once Mutombo throws his first elbow.

Great game by Deron, Andrei and Carlos - which made up for some poor shooting by the other two Jazz starters. Can't forget Korver off the bench either.
