What does this team need to get over the hump?
I thought this team had enough talent to make it to the finals this year and last. I'm asking the fans on this forum what do u guys think this team is missing? Is it the lack of a dominant big man? Is it time for a new coach? A trade? what?
Or, or was LA just that good? Do you roll out the same team again next year and hope for the best?
I did not expect the Jazz to lose game 6 in Utah. I was pulling for them. I'm disappointed.
your thoughts?

You guys are a pretty good team, there's just better teams in the WC. There's nothing you can do about that short of getting another superstar.

Imo a player such as Ron Artest would help Utah get over the top.

It can't. lol.
I'm sorry that's just the way it is. Unless you get players who are mentally tough enough to succeed on the road, Utah with its core as it is will never win the championship. It's not a diss, it's a fact.

Athleticism, and some defense in the front-court.

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
I think these are the things we need, in order of importance:
1. An interior defender. Millsap is a fine interior defender but he's still undersized. I'm talking a 7-foot shotblocking, game-changing defender. Names like Dalembert and Diop come to mind. The Jazz do have a big boy on the end of the bench in Fesenko, so we'll see what happens with that.
2. Experience. They had prime chances to win game 5 AND game 6, and perhaps we wouldn't be talking about this. They lost composure in game 5 during the 4th quarter and came out absolutely flat in game 6, only to come back within a last-second shot. Let's not forget, this team is still the 5th-youngest in the NBA, 2nd-youngest to make the playoffs behind Atlanta.
3. Consistent road play. They've been able to win games on the road during the regular season, but this is a second-tier experience factor. They lost so many stupid road games this season, including losses to every Eastern Conference team that DID NOT qualify for the playoffs, except Milwaukee. If they win a few more games, especially against bad teams, they're the #1 seed and have a better shot to get over the hump.

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
heart
killer instinct
cj miles to take all of harpring's minutes
an athletic defensive shot blocking center
jerry sloan to retire
then again nothin really matters since $tern will never let a team from utah win a championship

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
They need to draft Hibbert and trade AK in a sign and trade for Ron Artest and fillers.

Roy Hibbert (G-Town) and some type of scoring SF or a back-up PG...

Instead of re-typing what you've already said, I'll just add that having Boozer show up in the playoffs would be helpful.

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
Draft Roy Hibbert, Trade Kirilenko for Artest, acquire a quick combo guard that can score points in a flash (montae ellis, leandro barbosa, keyon dooling, rafer alston, steve francis, daeqan cook) someone like that to take the pressure off of williams and spread the offense around. While barbosa and ellis are most likely untouchable its still possible to acquire one of the other four.
Okur isnt a true center he's not good enough on defense is too soft and really needs to play the 4.
Maybe pull a Greg Popovich
and have Okur off the bench
with a starting lineup of
Hibbert
Boozer
Artest
keyon dooling/rafer alston/steve francis/daeqan cook
Williams

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
I'd say a backup PG and C (Someone like Dalembert).
I think you guys have a good team. YOu guys are young, just let your team grow together. Once Brewer gets better, you guys will have a great starting line-up.
Williams
Brewer
AK47
Boozer
Okur
so you guys should work on some backups. Millsap and Korver are good. CJ Miles would be a good 10th man, imo. So i think gettin' a shot blocking 7 footer backup Center and a backup PG for Williams would be perfect. Then just let your team grow together.
Just minor pieces like that, imo, would eventually get you guys over the hump, because you guys are just going to get better. The Lakers are good, but Kobe is going to be 30 by the start of next year, fisher 32, Gasol 28 and Odom 29. And then SA, Dallas and Phoenix are gettin' old. So it will probably be Utah, Portland and New Orleans for a while (With the Lakers there of course).
That is what i think. Even though i'm a portland fan, i really like your guys' team, and was voting for you guys in the playoffs.
Good luck next year.

Re: What does this team need to get over the hump?
man, this is a tough question. this is a really good team obviously, but sometimes winning the ship requires some luck. this team is right there, really. with good playoff seeding, have some role players step up, take advantage of opposing star players having bad nights... if the team is clicking on all cylinders they may not need to make any significant changes to win the ship.
it sucks the west is so top heavy and yet so deep. i really thought acquiring korver was a step in the right direction. maybe with some more moves like that, bring in the right role player, can really help this team in critical moments. having young players develop would obviously help too. if at all possible, try to acquire a young defensive big.. doesn't have to be dalem | |
