I didn't think I would either. The Jazz organization will be weeping for a while because he didn't get a ring or break the scoring record in Utah. I was looking forward to the day Malone broke the record. But now, I'm not sure I'm a strong supporter of him anymore. My dream right now would be for the Jazz to go on and win a championship in three years and leave him as his Lakers in the dust without a title. I do wish Malone well though, he did too much for this organization not to apprieciate. I was fooled because all the sports guys were saying that Malone will stay. Larry Miller offered the mailman 8 mil. to stay in Utah and break the record. If I had to pick a 2004 NBA Champion right now, it would be the Lakers. This news I will remember for a long time. I'm just going to miss never hearing "Stockton to Malone" ever again. Now we won't even hear Malone's name. Man, this going to be a weird 2003-2004 season. Hold on Jazz fans......

Oh, come on. Loyalty in sports is a good and rare thing these days, but everyone knows he wasn't going to get the ring in Utah. Karl gotta do what Karl gotta do, and to him, the championship is more important that anything else.

Honestly, I would much rather have a personal accomplishment than an NBA Championship. He would be listed in the HOF as All-Time leading Scorer. Adding one championship to a resime is not that impressive. When your grandson asks"Who's the all-time leader in scoring?" wouldn't you like your name to be said? I don't think many people would talk about Malone's championship. I know they would talk about him for a long time if he broke the record though.

Whaat? Seriously, is Kareem considered a great player because he stayed around for eons longer than he should have and racked up a bunch of points? Hell no! He's considered great because he was a part of multiple championship teams. Nobody cared that he was able to score all those points. Who's blocked the most shots in NBA history? Officially it's Hakeem Olajuwon, but do you consider him one of the best because he holds that record or because he was able to win the big one twice? MJ has the highest career scoring average ever, but is that the first thing you think of when you hear the name Jordan? The ring is where it's at.

I agree; I would rather have the scoring title at this point in my career. Malone isn't going to garner any additional respect or praise for joining a championship contender and then winning the title, and I can't imagine it would mean as much to him as if he had won one with the Jazz.

Stockton & Malone both DESERVED to win one with the Jazz, unfortunately it wasn't to be. You cannot blame the guy for wanting to taste the ultimate victory just once before hanging it up for good. No, I'm sure it will never ever ever compare to what it would have felt like if he could have won one in Salt Lake with Johny by his side but at least it's something. He doesn't care about the scoring title....he's more of a team player than to think of personal accomplishments over winning it all.

I would rather go down in history than tag along with another team so you can taste a championship that you didn't really earn with that team. It just doesn't feel right to me.

Who says he is not going to earn it? The Lakers need a PF, and KM fits in perfectly. Double Shaq, and KM will nail the J, when Shaq is on the bench, then the triangle can run thru Malone. Malone is also the added rebounding help Shaq needs. I think if he does all those things, then he has earned it.

True. Malone probably wouldn't like to go down as Barkley and Ewing: "sure they were great players, but..."
For all Malone gave the Utah organization (and the NBA) noone should question his desire to win the ring.
And... who knows? If he gets the ring this year, he may well return to Utah to break Kareem's record! That would be sweet!
