I've got a zillion questions about next season..what are you're thoughts?

Who's gonna start at the 2? Right now I guess it looks like Stevenson, but is it remotely possible that Pavlovic or even Harpring could start ahead of him? (Assuming Maggette is matched)

I know there's been a lot of speculation about Harpring getting traded to clear up the SF for Kirilenko...but are these just rumors or is there any serious interest from other teams? Harpring is arguably our best player, but IMO AK is our future and we can only keep him on the bench for so long...if we can get a future 1st rounder + decent PF for Harp, I'm all for it.

When is Ostertag's contract over?

Has anyone who's seen any RMR games tell me if Mo Williams has outperformed Raul? I'm sure Raul is a fine player, but I think that Mo was possibly a top 15-20 prospect after next season, and maybe a late 1st round prospect this year.....he just came out too early. He was a pimp at Bama this past season, and I really like his game. And I'm not sure I can call anyone with two torn ACLs our future PG.

Do we even have a PF on the roster? Borchardt is a C, Collins is hurt, Malone is history, Amaechi is gone, as well as Padgett. Ugh.

A look at possible starting lineups:
PG-Lopez
SG-Stevenson
SF-Harpring
PF-Kirilenko (I say this never happens...he'd be a better 2 than a 4)
C-Ostertag

PG-Williams
SG-Harpring
SF-Kirilenko
PF-Borchardt
C-Ostertag.

Will we win 15 games?

Harpring will probably play the 2 even though it's not a great fit. If Maggette doesn't come that is. Kirelenko has to start next season and so does Harpring. I think Mo Williams may start at point over Lopez. I give Ostertag the C spot but think Bordchardt should be there but will have to play PF. Stevenson will be 6th man off the bench.

Utah trades:
C John Amaechi
SG DeShawn Stevenson

Utah receives:
PF Antonio Davis
PG Lindsey Hunter
SF Morris Peterson

TRADE ACCEPTED

You take on Davis' massive contract, but you get rid of problem children Amaechi and Stevenson, and Hunter's contract expires next year, but he could start for you this season. Toronto wants to get rid of all three (especially Davis) and would almost certainly do this.

C-Ostertag/Borchardt
PF-Davis/Padgett?/Massenburg?
SF-Kirilenko/Peterson
SG-Harpring/Pavlovic
PG-Hunter/Lopez/Williams

IR:
Collins

Just a few thoughts and answers

I think I'll break it down by positions...

PG - Unless another PG signs on, Raul Lopez should be the starter. He dropped 8 dimes in 1 summer league game and looked more comfortable on the floor than Mo did imo. I'm not sure if I would even sign Mo. He may need to develop more before he can play with the big boys. I don't know what's the deal with Arroyo . Utah should sign a veteran to help Raul, (in case he needs it) like Travis Best or even re-signing Mark to the vet minimum. I also like Smush Parker that played for Cleveland last season.

SG - I don't understand why Harpring can't play 2 guard while DeShawn backs him up. He's 6'7 while AK-47 is 6'9. Both Harpring AND Kirilenko can and should be on the floor imo. ESPECIALLY, since Maggette is gone.

SF - This spot belongs to AK-47 with Pavlovic backing him up.

PF/C - Jazz have some BIG guys that can play both positions! Ostertag is a Center and this is the last year of his contract. He should start mainly b/c he's the lone 8 yr. vet that has enough experience. Amaechi is and has been an expensive joke! JArron Collins shpould be healed and should start at the 4 at this point. Before he was hurt, he played well. Similar to his brother in New Jersey. Borchardt should back-up whoever needs to come out first since he's 7'0

Search on for veteran playmaker

With the Rocky Mountain Revue behind them now, the Jazz seem convinced of one thing: They like their young point guards, but they also want one who has been around the NBA block a time or two.
All three points on the Utah's summer-league team — Raul Lopez, Mo Williams and Jermaine Boyette — may be back for veterans camp in the fall.

It looks like the Jazz will probably go after a veteran to play the point, but time is running out of their hands.

Not only does the terrible Stevenson have no future with this Jazz team, he has no present, either. Don't expect him to touch the floor in 2003-04, his final season in a Jazz uniform. Either the Jazz end up signing a Stephen Jackson this summer (he'll end up in either Denver, Utah, or Atlanta, I think), in which case he's their starting SG, or they'll go with a Calbert Cheaney (I think they'll re-sign him)/Aleksander Pavlovic platoon. Definitely a weak spot on a team with many weak spots all of a sudden.

I just don't understand why nobody besides me thinks that AK-47 is handed the starting PF job. Isn't it worth a shot? Also, Harpring is one of the best bang-for-your-buck players in the league, and he's a Jerry Sloan kind of player, he's not going anywhere.

Expires at the end of the season, lots of teams will want to dump a longterm salary (Antonio Davis was mentioned by somebody else here) in exchange for Ostertag, no question. Although the Jazz will need to get a very strong offer here. Antonio Davis is not worth messing with at this point.

PG is definitely a major question mark. That starting backcourt will rival Denver's 2002-03 starting backcourt in its awfulness. I agree with whoever suggested Travis Best as an option, I was thinking the same thing.

Again, I'm going with AK-47 here. The free agent PFs available at this point are nothing to get excited about. Malik Allen, Donnell Harvey, Brian Scalabrine, Reggie Evans, Gary Trent, Mike Batiste--dear god, you've GOT to be kidding me!

Borchardt is a C, not a PF, correct? Stevenson will not and I mean WILL NOT touch the floor next season, regardless of how bad this team is (and it will be very, very bad). My starting lineup:

PG Lopez/Arroyo (platoon)
SG Cheaney/Pavlovic (platoon--unless S. Jackson signs)
SF Harpring
PF Kirilenko
C Ostertag

Obviously, when your #1 scoring option is MATT HARPRING and your #2 scoring option is Andrei Kirilenko (who I like a lot, but c'mon, a #2 scoring option, at this point in his young career, I don't think so), you're obviously well on your way to finishing with the worst record in the NBA.

I will say this repeatedly for the next 8-9 months: IF this Jazz team wins 25 or more ballgames, Jerry Sloan deserves to win the NBA Coach of the Year Award, SERIOUSLY!

AK-47 can block shots, but a 6'9 225 (at best!) power forward, even in the East, would have to be tough as hell - something AK-47 is not. At all.
