I would protect:
Mo WIlliams
Carlos Arroyo
Raul Lopez

Although we don't need 3 point guards, they are some of our best players, and one of them could be useful draft bait.

Raja Bell
AK47
Harpring

No brainers really...

Sasha Pavlovic

We need to see how this guy pans out

and finally:

Gordan Giricek

Vaguely reminiscent of Jeff Hornacek

All the others are FA anyway. Ruffin and COllins are dispensable, as are Ostertag and Googs. Mikki Moore could be useful to hang on to, although as he's a FA there's no guarantee we would re-sign him anyway. Curtis Borchardt is too injury prone to risk, IMO. He looks like he could be a handy player, but that's no good if he's made of glass. COuld benefit from big minutes on an expansion team though.

Yeah, that'd be my list as well. It's strange protecting 3 PG's, but I could see an expansion team going after any one of them easily... Arroyo is already a fine PG and the other two have some serious upside.

Isn't Arroyo a free agent? If so then he wouldn't have to be protected.

You guys have 4 guys under contract next season. So you guys must protect 3 and leave one of those players open. The guys are: Harpring, Kirilenko, Pavlovic, and Bourchardt. I think it's pretty obvious that Bourtchardt is going to be exposed in the draft.

They have more than just those four, at least according to Patricia's Basketball Stuff. According to there, the following players are signed for beyond this season: Pavlovovic, Lopez, Harpring, Borchardt, Mo Williams, Kirilenko, and Bell -- though some may be player or team options, or RFAs, or something else. Regardless, that's still only 7 players total, and the requirement of leaving one unprotected is still easy to fill with the obvious pick Borchardt.

Utah will not be a name called out at the expansion draft.

I've read the expansion draft rules and I need to change my mind. You cannot protect unrestricted free agents, only restricted free agents and players under contract. However, if you have 8 or fewer players under contract you must still leave at least one unprotected.

The Jazz only have 6 players who are not unrestricted FAs (according to Hoopshype.com). THese are:
Kirilenko
Harpring
Lopez
Pavlovic
Bell
Borchardt

We MUST leave one of these players unprotected.

I say Borchardt, but we need a decent big man more than we need a 2/3 (ie Bell, Pavlovic). Curtis COULD end up being better than Sasha, if he can stay healthy. Nevertheless, seeing as he appears to be made of glass, Borchardt gets my vote to be exposed to the expansion draft.

Anyone disagree?

No, you have to leave Borch exposed because it is almost certain the Bobcats wouldn't take him - that certainty isn't there with Sasha who is only 20 and would be a nice pickup for an expansion team.

If you don't want to lose anyone, leave Borchardt unprotected. If you do want to lose someone, leave anyone but Borchardt unprotected and Charlotte will gladly snatch that player up.
