Our draft
Think there's any chance we try to trade up in the draft to get a big man, like Podkolzine? Or maybe an exciting wing scoring type player?

I disagree
I don't think that the jazz should take such a chance. I agree with the jazz; be patient and let other people take chances. There are a lot of free agents that the jazz can get to fill the center spot. I would enjoy the thought of either trading a couple of picks for someone, or using the picks and letting the euro guy work in europe. There are is a lot of euro talent that the jazz could use. I like for the jazz:

If we're trading up to get a big man, we need to get Andriuskevicius (sp maybe). He is being mentored by Sabonis and has a strong desire to improve his game.
Oh, did I mention he was 7'3" and light on his feet? He's a bit thin now and I don't know if he's going to come out this year or not because he isn't on NBAdraft.net.. but if he came out, I'd want us to do whatever we could to get him.
Humphries seems too small for a western PF, IMO. He's great, but he seems like Matt Harpring version 1.1. Also a second round steal might be Pape Sow.. I got to see him play in person a few times this year and he's AMAZING for a guy who hasn't been playing basketball very long. Reminds me of a poor man's Stoudemire.

I don't want to see Podkolzine in a Jazz uniform. Big bust. I'm a little hesitant to take any project. If we can get a cert, get him, but we don't need to waste a good draft pick on another Shawn Bradley.
We have shown this year that we don't need superstars to be successful. Mikki Moore is starting to get it done, and he's ben waived more times than the Queen's hand.
What we need to carry on being successful is for Sloan to live until he's 246.

Yup Jerry Sloan is AMAZING
Yup Podkolzine = Bradley or LESS he's gonna be a major bust!
I think the Jazz need to take a solid guy who can play right away and maybe a young project big guy but that should be the later pick.

I think they should look into trading a couple of the picks for a young veteran center or forward who can contribute. If they keep the picks they definitely need to be looking for front court help.

Don't get it twisted, I don't want Pavel either....but we were absolutely dazzled by him last year in a pre-draft workout.

If the Jazz get Knicks pick via PHX, they will have 2 picks in the mid-teens. They could trade up, but w/ the lack of talent in Utah, I'd imagine they would keep them, unless they can pull a favorable trade.
You gotta imagine the Jazz organization knows more about Araujo and has seen him more than any other franchise. He may still be available here, and think he would make sense. It would be a good PR move as well, getting the local stud. Harrison, Jin, and Swift could be available also, so the Jazz have some options if they want to go big.
I think Kirk Snyder, may be availble here, would be a good pick as well. He's from (relatively) nearby Reno, and is a talented 2, which they could use.
Kris Humphries could also be an option here. Where better place to go for a mini-Karl Malone? I think he would feed off of Sloan's energy.
W/ 2 1st round picks, there is always a chance they could move up. Regardless, the Jazz have lots of options, and the franchise has a bright future right now.

16. Utah Jazz (from New York) – Robert Swift. C. Will do great under Sloan. Is aggressive in the post and can pass the ball well, as well as run the floor. We already know about his shot blocking skills but once he bulks up he will be able to hold his own in the post. Value should rise during draft camps.

I agree with RebelSun, Kirk Snyder would be a great pick for this team. The reason I have them taking Swift is because I assume Araujo's value will shoot up near the draft and he will get taken in the lottery. Jazz will take the best big man available.
There has been some dispute over the draft board as to whether the Rockets will give up their 04 1st (likely to be #21) to the Jazz or send them a future one, but as things stand now the Jazz only have 2 first rounders.

Just knowing the Jazz organization like I do, I think they would pass on Chiriaev, even though I would LOVE to have Sloan develop a talent like him.. But his ego is so ginormous that there's no way he'd get along with Sloan, who rips our players publicly (and often) at the slightest showing of selfishness or ego..
If I had the choice between Araujo and Swift, I'd go with Rafa.. He's not going to be a superstar, but he's a workhorse who will get rebounds and set hard picks.. 12/8 isn't out of the scope of possibility as soon as his rookie year, I don't think..

I hope they jazz do not take kris humphries. Undersized PFs are not the way to go unless your name is Elton Brand
