How much $$$
After googs and osterloafs salaries come off the books. How much money is the jazz looking at to spend on free agents. I was just reviewing the free agent list for this summer and this could be a good summer for the jazz.

This is fun
This whole posting thing is fun. I can answer a question and then turn around and answer my own question. This new medication rocks!!
Just heard from some local radio guys that the jazz are projected to have 24 million under the cap. I know that utah isnt a real player favorite but if we are unable to get anyone this summer than my whole players only care about money theory will be shot.
Although if my theory is only true for 50% of free agents than let the buffet line form to the right, because this could be a fun summer for the jazz. Here is my updated wish list for the jazz this summer.
Eric Dampier
Stromile Swift
Steve Nash
Q. Rich

Hey man(or gal),Ive been reading here every night for like 6 months now and, have noticed that it is kinda slow here.So Ill try and respond as much as I can.Yea I heard the other day on kfan that the cap space will be a little over 24 mill, but then u have to take into affect.
1.will we match any offer to arroyo?
2.will we offer giri a contract?
3.will the jazz brass be dumb enough to offer tag what he wants(for the love of god NO!!!!)
So there are some players now that could effect the 24 mill mark.Even if we do pick up both arroyo and, giri I think it will only affect about 7-10 mill.So I think we will be looking at somewhere around 16 mill.

Wow you've been reading bbb.net for 6 months and this is your first post? you oughta post more with your knowledge! Once you start posting you'll eventually get addicted to it
Utah needs to rebuild, and I think they need a star player that would compliment AK47 (which is not too difficult to find since AK's so muti-talented).
Of the 4 u mentioned, I can picture Stro fitting in best.

Yea I will,I do think we should throw some money at stro.I realy think that we only have a shot at stro and, okur.Blount's son lives in miami, word on the street is that he will more then likely be in favor of a miami deal(if we gave him more then miami then maybe,I just dont want to over pay)but we will see...

I know he doesn't seem like a Sloan-type player, but I would like to see us make a push for Q-Rich. I don't think LAC is going to match anything on him over 5 mill, and even if we do sign some guys like Stromile and Blount, we're still going to need a big-time scorer to be a very successful team. A perfect offseason would land us Stro, Q, and a solid center, in my opinion.. Then you have Harpring coming off the bench for 26~ minutes a game..
I'm also not really sold on either of our point guards. Arroyo's numbers are nice, but IMO he isn't nearly as good as they indicate. He's too inconsistent, and he dribbles far too much.. I can't count how many times we'd get horrible shots because Carlos spent 20 seconds dribbling around trying to start the offense. Raul is nice, I think we're better with him than Carlos when he's out there because he makes more things happen - fast breaks, etc.. but he turns the ball over WAY too much - #2 in the NBA in TO/48.. unacceptable. I would love to see us go after Brent Barry, but I doubt he'd want to come here unless we overpaid him (which we shouldn't because he's injury prone and getting old).

With 24.7 million under the cap there are a lot of options however this years class is not that great. I like QRich-there is no way that Sterling will spend this summer given the way he lost this year. I think he can be taken. He would also be a fantastic contrast at the SG playing opposite to Giricek. Stromile I think would fit in great in Utah. He did much better under a good coach like Hubie. Imagine what sloan could do. But I think what is being overlooked is the center position. The only possibility I see in free agency is Dampier. I really like his game. But what other options are there at that spot.

If you guys renounce all your FAs and options, that means you only have Andrei, Aleks, Curis and Matt, you could have as much as ~$35 mill. But as of now you will have to add 3 picks with guaranteed deals. But you guys have a lot either way.
Problem with those restricted guys like Quentin is that you are essentially being used. Just like with Maggette and Brand. Plus if you go after these guys right away, your $ is tied up for ~15 days while the old team decides whether to match. If they match, other guys you might have wanted could be gone.
Its going to be really interesting to see if you guys really get top players. The Utah lifestyle does not really mesh with the chosen lifestyle of a lot of NBA players. You might have to settle for guys who are out of options. Hopefully the winning tradition, young studs and great coach are enough of a draw to get you the top guys.

Last summer when the jazz went after Brand and Maggette, I agree that the jazz were being used. But the jazz didnt jump out of the gates, they sat a little and let other teams pick up people like Odom and such. This offseason there are quite a few young players looking for the big payday and that is what the young guys are looking for after their rookie contracts. They want the big money most of all. Donald Sterling is the cheapest GM alive, he has people to take the place of QRich. No one has the money that the jazz do right now.

Yes Dampier & Swift should be the top targets, and Okur. The Jazz don't want Blount, trust me, he has hands of stone. He's not worth big money.

You can do so much better than Blount he is MLE material for the Magic. That says it all. I like your list. I would play hardball with Damp though. He has had one good year. Be careful.
