{USA Today} Malone mum on retirement plans... (but hints @ retirement)...

"I've made up my mind," said Malone, who turned 37 in the off-season. "I don't want to keep everybody in suspense. At the appropriate time, I'll make my announcement. ... I'm reluctant to back myself into a corner and say what I will or won't do right now. But with the age of my kids, with what I want out of my family, it could be my last year."

Everyone who can, should see a Utah vs. Their Home Team game this year... saying that you saw one of the best PF, if not the best PF is surely something... if you don't you might miss your chance.

One day later, Malone sounded as if he isn't absolutely sure what he wants to do.
"It's not about the money and stuff like that," Malone, who becomes a free agent next offseason, said prior to practice this morning. "The Jazz have to do what they have to do, and me as well.
"A lot of times, when things happen, there's time to do other things, or decide what you want to do," he added. "I haven't made up that decision yet, but I just wanted the Jazz to know there's no pressure as far as I'm concerned, because I do feel everything I say and do - it's like they're waiting in the balance to see what's going to happen next. And I don't want them to be like that."

This is a quote from the above article written by the Jazz beat writer. He asking Malone about those comments in USAToday. Malone says a lot of things he really doesn't mean. With him you never know if he is serious.

He is a man who takes counsel from himself, and himself only. He will do what he thinks best, regardless of what anyone else thinks he should do. A lot of people will be upset if he leaves the game without going after the scoring record, but if he thinks its best to walk, he's the kind of guy who would do just that.
But I have the feeling that by the time the decision has to be made, Malone will want that record and decide to keep plugging along to get it (unless he gets hurt -- if he's out for a significant portion of this season, I bet he'd hang it up).

I congratulate him for his dedication to the game and keeping himself in tip top shape but for some reason he seems very selfish to me. I cant put my finger on it but it seems like his presence in their offense is bottling up some of the younger players

I am not sure how much of that is Malone, how much is the younger players themselves, how much is Coach Sloan, how much is the Jazz system and how much is the organization as a whole. I think all can share some blame.
Malone gets a majority of touches on the offense and everything goes through him. This means that a lot of younger players don't get the ball enough.
The system is geared to Malone and Stockton's game. It is about execution. It is about being in the right spot at the right time. If they understand the system, have the right attitude and skills others can thrive like Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley and Jeff Hornacek. Others such as Stevenson seem to have trouble. I think his struggles are skills related, his skills are different than what is needed. He isn't a outside shooter which is what is expected of the SG. He doesn't play defense well enough to suit Sloan. There is little time for a player like Stevenson to go one on one and try to take advantage of his athletic ability.
