Trade idea
I don't make a habit of coming up with these, but I was thinking about the possiblity of Shareef Abdur-Rahim coming to Utah. I think he'd be a good fit, and we could do with a genuine PF. We could spare Matt Harpring, which would in turn allow Ak to move to his more natural SF slot. We can also spare a PG, and as the Blazers only have an aging Stoudamire, they might be interested.
Looking at the salaries, we would need to do a sign & trade with Arroyo (his FA status is unclear) or throw in some fillers (Borchardt, or a re-signed Ostertag??). Harpring's salary is only 4.5mill, whereas Reef's is 14.6
Utah Trades:
Matt Harpring SF/SG
Carlos Arroyo PG
Greg Ostertag C
Utah Receives:
Shareef Abdur-Rahim PF
What do you reckon?
Is Reef worth going for? What would we need/be willing to give up?

Thats giving up way to much for Reef. the guy is a cancer, everywhere he goes the team turns to ****. if I was KOC I might be winning to give up one of this years first rounders, and maybe a second rounder down the road for him- but not much more.
the Jazz have AK, and can probibly find someone in the draft that will be just as good as reeferman.

Actually, I'd like that trade.
It definetely fills a need that we have at PF.
And I don't think that's giving up too much because Ostertag doesn't count, Harpring leaving doesn't hurt too much because of AK, and I like Mo Williams better than Arroyo.

I don't know if I like this trade. I love Rahim. I don't think he is a cancer. He just isn't a guy that knocks off my socks enough to give up someone like Harpring. This will be an interesting offseason, not one that the jazz will do too much gambling. I think the jazz can work out a deal that wouldn't have to give up Matt. The jazz can take his contract.

I'd be very interested to see what Sloan could do to Shareef Abdur-Rahim...

He would be interesting under Sloan, but IMO not worth giving up Lopez/Arroyo and how they try so hard because they want to start.

I'd love to do it - but Portland wouldn't.
They're either going to try to trade Z-Bo or Rahim for a two guard. Portland (fans and FO) loves Darius Miles, and Ruben Patterson is a great guy to have off the bench.. I can't see them taking the offer. Who knows though.

Playing Harp at the two was a big stretch before the injury.. after it, I don't really see him having the lateral quickness to stick with any of the quick shooting guards.. who knows though.

His latteral quickness has really been so much lessened? Because , if I had to choose between a healthy Harping and Abdul-Rahim , I would go for Harping. Needless to say that I would never trade Harping AND Carlos Arroyo for Rahim. Both of these players are more or less underrated , but remain very competitive. They have had to prove that they belonged to the league every single minute they spent on the field .
