Re: Steam
Gave Crusader Kings II a whirl this weekend. I really enjoy it, but be warned, it's entirely strategy and plotting with very little action. There are battles and the like, but they just get run through some function of the program, they don't happen as a mini-game like in Mount and Blade. Again, a ton of strategy, as in "stare at the screen for 15 minutes as time passes because there's no opportune move to make". Great game to run while you have sports on the TV because it doesn't require your undivided attention in a way that action games will. Ate up my entire weekend, might do the same to this coming week(I swear, I'm getting back into the gym......son), but it's not for everyone.

Re: Steam
Not sure what Paradox games you've played if that comes as a surprise to you. Victoria and Europa Universalis are the same way. Love Paradox though. Never played Crusader Kings, but it seems like the most crazy one of any of those games because it's about dynasty building instead of running a country. Marry your cousin off halfway across the world, and then if your main family dies, boom now you're playing as your distant relative, the king of Azerbaijan.

Re: Steam
That is 150% true. I spent so much time ALT+TABing between the game and the wiki when I first got it that I think I froze the game a few times. Someone did a screenshot LP/Tutorial of it on another forum after I was "competent" and that really helped. Being a small trading nation is such a ridiculous cheat, but I suppose the Netherlands in real life really WERE basically a cheat with how rich and influential they got considering their size.

Re: Steam
I actually didn't play either of those two titles, so I can't say. It does have a rather thorough, if time-consuming, tutorial though, and I was able to pick the game up just by setting the difficulty to the easiest setting and jumping right in. If you have a half-day to a day to waste on learning the basics of the game you should be okay.

Re: Steam
It's ok. Haven't given it too much time yet. Too many other games on the burner.
A lot more resource management then fighting. Great music.

Re: Steam
I was just playing dungeon defenders. Fun game. When there would be a break I'd write shit like "Have to go pee and grab a beer." and when I'd come back I'd see shit like "Concentrate on defense!"
I was playing with some chick named toesack. And she'd kick people out if they took too much loot. What is a toe sack. It sounds super grose to me. I miss her already.

Re: Steam
Welp, I sure don't have this type of game in me today.
I'll come back and try it another time. I should not have purchased this until it was on sale for at least 50% off.

Re: Steam
My Steam library is ridiculous in size. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play nearly as much of it as I would like. Same goes for console games. It is so rare for me to play anything anymore. It feels like I'm just a hoarder these days, though that should change soon (hopefully).
Going through it really quickly here's a few recommendations on games that aren't as well known: Braid, Jamestown, The Longest Journey, Recettear, Torchlight, Bastion, Machinarium, and Orcs Must Die. Then there's other non Triple A titles like Limbo, Psychonauts, and Myst that were once big a long time ago or have cult status now. |
