Ont he perimeter, defense is pretty easy if you have a good matchup. Kobe's impossible, but against anyone else, just make sure you're using the right stick effectively.
Seems like the AI's shooting percentage inside is just higher than it is outside. It doesn't matter how good of defense I play in the post, it seems like they always make their post hooks and fadeaways unless they're a shitty player.

Re: NBA 2K13

AI still does seem to simply shred any defense you put on, I'm really hoping VC's next big improvement is making it remotely possible to continuously stay in front of your man. So many times I've been frustrated after possessions where you play insanely stringent D only to be scored on off of some bogus glitch in the animation.

You guys should try the sliders. They help.

Re: NBA 2K13

Just tried the sliders that RWE posted and they're better than the ones I was using but they're not perfect. Foul disparity is still off (6 to my 11) and when I'm getting hammered down low I expect a foul called. I still feel like they make too many contested shots in the paint and mid range, at least compared to me. The pass accuracy really hurt me on inbounds passes, I had about 4 turnovers just with passes flying over a player's head and one's bouncing off defenders. They also stole the ball 7 times and only had 3 turnovers themselves. Maybe my defense sucks but them scoring 18 points on my turnovers hurt. I also never enjoy turning down awareness because I already feel as though my teammates are a bunch of idiots and it just makes it worse.

Free throws for the CPU need to be harder in this game. They rarely miss, last year was a lot more realistic I think.

That might have been an aberration. I have had the opposite experience in various games. I have been shooting a good deal of free throws with these sliders.

This is potentially valid. I have pretty good timing on my jumpers, so I might not be a good test case for this.

I personally love that. It makes it so much more realistic. When the inbounds is being guarded you actually have to run to a truly open spot in order to receive a pinpoint pass. You also have to use directional passing to get the ball to the right spot. That is one of the major goals of the sliders. It requires an adjustment for sure. That's a good thing.

7 turnovers is very reasonable (if not a little low) for a well-played game. 3 turnovers for them means you're probably not jumping the passing lanes, half-court trapping, or rushing the strong-side post-ups enough.

What is usually your plan defensively and how often are you switching your schemes? I usually start the game in a 1-3-1 to gauge how hot the opponents' shooters will be early. I usually go to a man while also double-teaming the opponent's best perimeter scorer on the touch (unless that guy is also a dynamite passer). If the team features a dominant post scorer, I usually play on the center and try to front him as much as possible to deny the post entry. Those sliders lead to the occasional bad lob pass that just sails out of bounds. I also mix in a little 3-2 zone after free throw situations mostly to mess with the other team's back-up PG. It usually leads to a couple more turnovers. In crunchtime, I alternate 1-3-1 zone and man while turning my defensive rebounding tendency all the way up.

I'm curious to others in this thread as well. What kinds of strategy tweaks do you make as the game progresses?

By timing I'm assuming you mean picking when to shoot them? I'm fine shooting the ball and I had 60%+ field goal percentage, but I don't agree with CPU making shots that I can't in certain situations. I feel as though they make a lot more contested shots, and I'd be willing to guess that I contest shots better than the CPU in certain situations.

I've never felt that the game is fast enough to have time to pick a player to run to a spot, players do not react quick enough. I've done it before, but it's a pain in the ass and sometimes the CPU knows magically exactly where the ball is going.

I think I had 13-15. And yeah I don't play the passing lanes because help defense is generally pretty weak and never gets there fast enough. I force turnovers with double teams and steals mostly.

I play man-to-man because I feel like the zone defense is a joke in 2k games.

So have I in previous years. 2k12 was notoriously poor for zone defense. You couldn't even try to play zone. This year, though, i found that if you turn up defensive awareness and on-ball defense to around 70, zones work perfectly. Much like RWE, I've been alternating zones quite frequently and effectively, although I don't prefer high pressure defenses.

Re: NBA 2K13

To hell with the supposed replay system in this game. With the 1st quarter winding down, I pull up with Kobe from the foul line, knock down the shot as the buzzer expires, shot goes "under review" only to be deemed not to count. I manually run the replay back and there was 0.2 left on the clock as it had just left his hand. Fuuuuck.

Re: NBA 2K13

Simply cannot get enough of this game. I'm really starting to abuse the alley-oop system, I love coming down the court with LeBron, coming in off the wing at an angle, lobbing it off the glass underhand with the left only to throw it home with the right. So smooth.

Still strung up on the fact that 2K only included the All-Star content to those who preordered it. What a joke. I'm sure there's still a chance that they'll eventually offer the DLC for an additional charge, but if they're going to do that, do it soon. Don't make us wait until half the life cycle of the game is exhausted.

I've got the All-Star content, it's not that great.
