From Wizards to World Champions

Maybe we should work on that Kwame extension this summer ...
Quote:
It's taken almost a quarter of a century, but Washington, D.C., is an NBA champion again. The Bullets/Wizards are finally out of the wilderness and back among the NBA's elite. And beating the Lakers to do it! Well, for my hometown, quite a coup.

Um, David? What are you talking about?

Well, the fact that the Wizards are beating the Lakers to win the Finals is an amazing feat, considering ...

Uh, hello? The Wizards aren't in the Finals.

Of course, they are. Don't you see Ben Wallace blocking shots and manning the paint? And Rasheed Wallace the other night -- what a game! And Rip Hamilton doing work, running like crazy all over the floor? Why, even Darvin Ham is getting some significant run. Wizards, everywhere.

Excuse me, dope. They aren't Wizards. They're Detroit Pistons. The Wizards traded all of them, or let them go.

They did?

Yes. They did.

Oh. Never mind.

So call the Pistons "Wizards West."

"We talk about it all the time," Ben Wallace said. "I guess a lot of people around the league knew something Washington didn't."

Pistons are a cautionary tale for all NBA people. Just because a high draft pick doesn't blow your socks off immediatley doesn't mean that it will never click. Billups, both Wallace boys and Rip are examples of that.

Thats why I lobby real hard to keep all of our bigs. Kwame, Brendan and Etan are all talented long and athletic we need to keep them all. Why the impatience.

We should sign kwame this summer it'll save us money now as opposed to next season and we'll have him locked up. Kwame will always have trade value if it doesn;t work out.

We traded both Rasheed and Ben Wallace when they were both putting up Kwame type numbers this past season get the drift the break-out is at hand.

actually, Rip and Rasheed were pretty good when they started to play with the Wizards. they averaged around 20 and 15 respectively. the Wizards are just constantly searching and never like to keep the same trend of ideas.

Rasheed actually averaged 10ppg. We traded him after his rookie season. Remember we had C webb and Howard at the time you're right though about Rip he was at or close to 20ppg.
