Official Thread: Wiz vs. Wolves 11/5/2002
This will be an interesting one going against K.G. They will be coming back from New Jersey.
Another chance for Larry Hughes to prove something against Troy Hudson, who is playing well.
We also get our old buddy Rod.
We need to take advantage of them while they have a few players hurt (Joe Smith and Brandon).
I think we can win this game although we lost both games last year by an average of six points.

I think this will be a tough game for us. I expect another loss.

We wouldn't seem to match up very well with them. Who do we put on Garnett? They've been starting 3 seven footers in KG, Netorovich, and Loren Woods... and I don't see Russell being a good match on any of them.
A year down the pike, I'd say we start Haywood/Thomas, Brown, and Jeffries and sick Brown on Garnett, but that's a tall order for the kid at this point. Of course, it's a tall order for anyone to guard Garnett, but I'm still not sure if Brown's head is ready for that kind of challenge. Guess they could try it in spots and see.

I'm starting to sound like Sonny Jurgenson picking the Wizards every game, but this is a game I think we'll get, Kwame's improved play will be the Key I think kwame will hold KG to about 20 and we get this one look for MJ to play 30 minutes and we win this one handily, Collins is going to be hard on the guys and JJ will assist on KG, Hudson will be neutralized by the AI stopper in Lue, and we hold Minesota to 80 points. This game will be keyed by Collins coaching in practice with a few days in between games collins will have the guys prepared and I think our shots will return again in this game, Look for Dixon to make an appearance since Minesota doesn't have a natural pg and with Hughes slightly hobbled. I'm more worried by the energy and size of cleveland after this actually than this game. Davis ,Miles and big Illgauskas worry me more in the back to back .

Wally World might not play, so things get a little bit more fair.
I think Kwame can do a good job on Garnett. Garnett likes to go outside on bigger defenders and post up smaller defenders...I don't think he can do either on Kwame (I hope).

They got hammered by the Nets last night and we should have been in Minnesota waiting for them This is advantageous to us.
Tonight will test out our defense, which is currently the best in the NBA.
Our offense will also be tested against the zone I expect Minnesota to use. We have to show the outside shot can be hit.

I say screw it and start:
Haywood
Brown
Jeffries
Stackhouse
Lue
Why not? Russell has played good D, but I'm sorry, he can't check KG. Not that Jeffries would do much better, but why not? Give him the nod for a night, bring Russell in when the Wolves go smaller.
Hughes is a little nicked up, so it's a good time to sit him down and let him rest/think about how he's played so far. Lue has earned some minutes/a start also.

I'm OK with your starting line-up other than Lue. I ike his spark off of the bench and I'm looking for Larry to have a good game soon.

@NE Wiz
I was a little on the fence about Lue, but figured his spark could ~kinda~ be replaced by Hughes/Bryon coming off the bench.
He does change the pace of the game a lot when he comes off the bench though.

Hughes has been nicked and Collins said in today's Post that he finally had a good practice and expects him to break out this game.
He played efficiently in the preseason and when healthy, I expect the same contributions.
I wish the Wizards had a shooter they could go to because Russell is definitely not living up to that role, but I guess everyone in the NBA wishes the had the guy that could sit on the wing, hit the 3, and play good defense.

I'm looking for 2 guys to have good games because they're due in Stackhouse and Hughes, I've been hard on Hughes but I read where his knee was sore so I will back off of him for nowbut by Collins comments looks like Larry is ready, as for Stackhouse I look for a 30 pt game from him he hasn't really gotten started yet and I expect tonight will be the night. I saw the Wolves last night and their big line-up with KG,Woods and Rasho, was interesting they zoned up for Jersey to shoot over it but the lack of ball handling cost them with the big guys when Jersey went to their pressure. The Wizards should do the same thing and put alot of pressure on the ball. Lue's 3pt shot at the top of the zone could be key tonight for the Wizards.

I said it once, and I'll say it again: the Wiz need Shane Battier.
WIth the way things are shaping up in Memphis, he is available. He would be perfect...

Who do we give up? What does Memphis need? I remember a thread last season saying RIp Hamilton was not worth Shane Battier. That still makes me chuckle.

Guys,
I missed hearing or seeing the game. Tell me what was good for three quarters and what happened in the fourth?
