Jamison mentions sacrifice
Jamison mentioning sacrifice at his press conference is the best thing I've heard in the last 5 years as a Wizards fan.
Saying that everyone has to sacrifice in order for this team to win is big time stuff.
We finally have someone that may understand what it takes to win.
I found it interesting that he realized that pulling back his game and letting it come to him was a winning formula.
If he can bring that spirit to this team and have a postive influence in the lockeroom (which is needed) things will be just fine.

Jamison seems really like a great guy. Very, very positive.
He echoed my own thoughts by saying that the team will average around 100 points and be one of the top teams in rebounding.
He actually stressed defense and said that would be the key to gettting the W's.
Larry Hughes and Jarvis Hayes were in the front row which is a good sign to see them supporting the organization and supporting the trade.
Also of note, Ernie called Gil on the phone before doing the deal and Gil told him he'd be happy to have Antawn here. Brian James called up some people in Golden State and it turns out that Gilbert and Antawn really were pretty good friends.

James actually said they weren't best friends but neither was a problem.
I think the lessons he laerned last season are really gonna help this team.
Wizards were top 10 in rebounding last season so I see that as a strength anyway they could very well be 1st this season.
The Wizards main problem will be defensive.
Eddie Jodan just said kwame was on the floor working out as we speak.
If we can get the coaches to work with kwame on the angles to take defensively for shot blocking.
If Kwame can crank up his help defense we could be really good.
Kwame has got to stop with the lazy weakside defense. He has to protect the basket better.
Jamison isn't a guy that gets lit up defensively. He just isn't a stopper or shot blocker. He has very quick hands.
He's a better defender than Stack was. Stack was terrible especially at the 3.

I wonder why when they were interviewing Jarvis the guy was acting like Jarvis was on the block. He was like "have you heard the rumors"? I wouldn't think you would ask Jarvis that, as if Jarvis was about to be traded.
Definetly an exciting time to be a Wizards fan. Kwame is at MCI as we speak working out, which is exactly what we needed him to be doing.

Yeah he kinda put Jarvis on the spot.
I would prefer we played the big lineup with Jarvis coming off the bench rather then start at the 3 spot.
I think Jarvis could be better at the 2 spot. He's too weak defensively to be a 3 full time.
I would hope when we go to our bench Jarvis could be the back-up 2 , JJ at 3, Etan 4, PJ Ramos 5.
We need a perimeter defender.Hopefully in free agency we address those needs.

a positive note from last year is that EJ seemed to really like the big lineup in. it's nice to see us gain more versitility at that spot with getting a really big small forward and the 2nd biggest center in the draft, i like where our organization is going right now.

Jamison Couln't Be Happier About Joining Wizards
Quote:
Antawn Jamison is moving from a team that won 52 games last season to one that hasn't made the playoffs since 1997 -- and he couldn't be happier about it.
"I can't stress how excited I am to be part of this organization," Jamison said at a news conference Monday. He was traded to the Washington Wizards by the Dallas Mavericks last Thursday. "This has been six years in the making."
While Jamison came off the bench last season, Washington coach Eddie Jordan sees him starting along with Kwame Brown at forward.
Jamison said he's ideal for the young Wizards.
"This is definitely the best situation so far in my career," he said.
Jamison claimed the opportunity to start wasn't the most important consideration in the deal.
"The most important thing is to win. I don't have any kind of ego," he said. "I experienced going to the playoffs last year, and I don't want that to be my only opportunity to make it to the playoffs."
Washington president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld said he was thrilled to land Jamison, but was careful to say many of the players on a team that won just 25 games last season may return.
"We might have all the pieces here," said Grunfeld.

I've been a Jamison fan since his final season at UNC, one of the rare guys I actually saw a decent amount in college. I was 50/50 on how well he'd fit on our team, but with each passing day, it sounds better and better. He certainly is saying all the right things.

I am not going to lie. I was a huge jamison fan when he was in college except when he went against the Hoos. My initial reaction to this was without understanding, and with the hope Stackhouse could be turned into a vet player, while we drafted a young SF. Thinking about it and how we go into this season, I can accept the whys, and now I am excited to have a player I like on the Wizards.

I got the feeling he was talking to Arenas.

He was probably talking to Hughes more than anyone else, Hughes is the guy that's really going to have to sacrafice his game next year in order for the team to win. Arenas is still going to get his shots but Larry won't be following up a career year with another career year.

I think he may have been talking to both guys cause the crap they were pulling last season toward the back half was ridiculous.
I'd like to see more assists, less fga's, less to's, from Arenas. I'd like to see Hughes ppg drop to about 11 or 12. Arenas could get 17 or so with 7 assists. Jamsion could get 19 and 8 and kwame can get 15 and 10, I'd be set with that.
If Arenas gets 20+ppg there's gonna be trouble which means his fg% will be bad once again. If Jamison is averaging over 22 there's gonna be trouble means Kwame isnt getting the ball enough. And if Hughes is getting more than 15 that means everyone is gonna be uptight.
Eddie Jordan is gonna have a tough time reeling in guys next season I can see Hughes getting benched which will upset him greatly. Which could present a problem.

Well if Arenas and Hughes are shooting at higher %, maybe like 45 %, then they can get similar production while taking less shots. Ultimately, Arenas and Hughes have to run the offense effectively through the low post to create open looks for themselves.

Arenas is good enough to get 20+ on a good percentage, he just needs decent players around him so that he can get better looks. He's a hell of an offensive player and it would be a waste for him to only get 17ppg.
This team WILL average near 100 points a game. This team is going to have to get up and down the court and outscore other teams. Arenas excels in an up and down game, as seen by us with the 3rd worst record in the league getting wins over both Dallas and Sacramento last year.
It will be something like-
Arenas- 20ppg
Jamison- 19ppg
Kwame- 15ppg
Hughes- 12ppg
The bench makes up the rest.
