Jared Jeffries
I am so glad we got this guy. His hustle right now is filling a role that Popeye occupied last season. As time goes on he will only get better. I had a feeling before the draft that this would be the guy to target and when Miami was up I was hoping they would take Butler, leaving Jared for us to take. The post indicated in their Bryon Russel article today that Jeffries will eventually take his spot in the starting lineup this season
Here is a little love from the Times. Enjoy.

Draft day was a rollercoaster wasn't it?
Had the Clippers made that deal it would have been completely different.
I'm happy the Heat got Caron, but I like Jeffries as well. I think Caron will turn into a much better scorer than JJ, but JJ will give the Wiz a lot of versatility all over the court.

Good post. Once the game becomes more instinctive the sky is the limit.
I love it that he is tough on himself, which is the reason Collins leaves him alone. I guess Kwame was not tough on himself last year and that is why Collins road him.

I am not so sure about that for a couple of reasons. Caron's knee could go at any time and if you look at the numbers, he is getting the opportunity to shoot and play, while Jeffries is doing the little things to get his stats. Put Jeffries in Butler's situation, with 38+ minutes a game and the green light to score, and I believe he would be getting much better stats than Caron.
Caron to me was the overhyped player of this years draft, stealing that honor from Qyntel Woods, who was justifiably passed over by everyone but the Blazers.
I think if Butler works hard and fulfills his potential he can be a James Posey type of player.

The only player outside of the top 3 that I would rather have is Drew Gooden and not by much.

I would only take Jay or Drew over him at this point.

I'll give you that Caron got a lot of hype. But you need to drop the whole "knee" thing because I've proven to you before that's not true and is only a rumor. But if you'd still like to contend he hurt his knee, find me a link saying he does, not a draft day rumor about it. He broke his leg when he was a pre-teen. And he hurt his wrist in the Prison School he went to, lol.
James Posey? lol.
I do not see him as the next Paul Pierce as he was hyped up to be, but I think he can easily be a 22-23 point scorer, 7 board, 4 assist, 2 steal type guy in a year or two.
I just want him to shoot over 40% from the field, and 80% from the line this year. 3pt's would be nice, but his strength is getting to the line.

Who in the league right now is a 22 point 7 board 4 assist guy?
You don't mean a Glenn Robinson do you?
Posey is a 17 9 4 guy. More what I expect from Butler. expcept less boards.

If JJ works hard, and fufills his potential, who do you see him as being like?

At first glance a Rashard Lewis with more of a post game, excect he probably won't be as prolific at the 3 and he will have more defense. I'll think about it some more. Not many 6'11 types with his skillset.

Heh, also found Big Dog.
Mashburn also has those same stats.
Not saying he will play the same type game as either of them, just saying those are the numbers I expect him to put up at some point.

I don't know. I think you are selling James Posey short.

I thought Caron had more of a Wally Sczerbiak type of offensive game, but Posey is definitely a possibility.
As for Caron vs. JJ...I just think a 6'11 small forward that can guard both small and power forwards is scary. Caron will be a great player in the NBA, but when JJ develops, he's going to cause alot of matchup problems.

It's hard to tell with either of them really.
Who knows what aspects of their games they will choose to focus on.
JJ is a more versatile player though, so he's a little harder to guess on what he's going to turn into.

I thought about him also, but Wally can drill the 3 a lot better than Butler can. Wally's also a better all around shooter. The free throw % is similar, but Caron is going to get a lot more of his points from the stripe than Wally will.
Posey is putting up some good numbers thru 6 games so far, so I did sell him a little short, you're right.
