Kwame Info; Good and Bad

From the Post ...
Quote:
Washington Wizards fourth-year forward Kwame Brown said Sunday that his surgically repaired right foot "more than likely" will keep him out until December.

"It really doesn't make sense -- the team is doing well -- for me to rush back and hurt myself again," he said. "I want to come back and be back."

The Wizards are off to a 2-1 start with Brown on the injured list. When he returns, he will have a lot at stake. The former No. 1 pick wasn't able to agree on a contract extension with the Wizards before the Oct. 31 deadline, meaning that he will become a restricted free agent next summer. A source familiar with the negotiations said the Wizards offered Brown a four-year deal worth $7.5 million per season, with a team option for a fifth year.

"I just thought it was better for me to wait it out," Brown said. "It's a gamble, but I'm betting on me. I have a lot of confidence. Prior to the injury, I was working pretty hard, lifting and I was getting a lot stronger."

Quote:
A team source said the team plans to match any offer Brown receives next summer. Either way, Brown said his desire is to remain in Washington.

"Yeah, of course," he said. "I think now that we have what we have, I don't see why we can't keep this thing together; stop sending players here and there and just keep a foundation."

We'll be alright with Kwame. I can honestly say we're going to compete for the playoffs with or without Kwame. He puts us over the top.

Jamison has been doing good at PF, 24ppg and 8 rebounds. Right now he's one of the best PFs in the East.

I don't expect a huge breakout year from Kwame, probably 14 and 9 and good defense.

We won't make the playoffs without Kwame. We need his post offense and post defense.

I figured it was gonna be December based on what I was hearing about what kinda work he was doing. So thats not a surprise. We can make it for the time being but its gonna wear our defense thin if we don't get him back soon.

The other night was the 1st dose of whats gonna happen to us if we don't get him back. We're gonna get caught up in shoot outs we can't win. With him in the game Haslem gets foul trouble maybe Shaq has to help and maybe gets a couple more fouls.

When we finally get him and Etan back we are gonna be a really good team. We should be .500 until he gets back though which is still good.

Kwame needs to suck it up and get back. Shouldn't be based on how the team is doing.

Times article on the injury unearths this little tidbit ...
Quote:
Coming off his best season — he averaged 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds last season — Brown hoped to use this season to showcase his often-questioned skills. As a result, the power forward, who in 2001 became the first high school player selected with the No. 1 pick in the draft, did not accept the Wizards' four-year, $30 million contract extension last month, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

And yet the Wizards didn't offer Brown a better deal than the $30 million over four years. The deal was even less appealing because, according to a source, the Wizards didn't include an option for a fifth season, something Brown and his representative wanted.

I also think kwame is using alittle tact here. He doesn't want to play while unhealthy it could affect his money and thats they point I think the article's are trying to make. He plays way less than 100% and doesn't produce the numbers he wants he loses leverage at season's end he comes back close to 100% and then he gets more money.

He needs to focus on wins/losses that will affect his money more than anything the Wizards brass will surely pay to key a key part of a winning team together.

Wizards medical/training staff is a joke back by camp Yeah Right, Etan out 3 days yeah Right.

I'm still think the whole Kwame situation is a little bit shady right now. I'm not 100% confident that Kwame will be on this team next season. I know it's likely, but a team like the Atlanta Hawks could offer him the Max and his production might not warrant that.

i think we will do watever it takes to keep Kwame here. I mean Ernie is a smart gm and he will not allow a potential 20-10 dude out of his team

I think its unlikely he gets offered the max, but who knows. But then again if he has a 18 and 10 season he might and he could get that sorta season feeding off the junk from this high scoring team.

But then again lets be real Jamison isn't a max player production wise or anything else wise he's part role player ,part featured player.

I think Arenas is the only one here worth his contract dollars, his salary matches perfect for his talent and affect on the game.

I really don't care what they pay Kwame. He's too valuable to lose because of his size and affect from a man defense and post offense point of view. He gives us the Rasheed Wallace type effect an athletic Big who can change the game at times physically.

You don't let those sorts out of your camp.
