Larry Hughes

This guy has played fairly well for the Wizards this season. He seems to get what he is supposed to provide on the floor and he is slowly getting better in his decision making on the floor. He will have his occassional lapses like he did last night on a critical fastbreak driving across the lane at the foul line extended, allowing Wallace to strip him, but overall he is starting to impress me.

His shooting percentage is up from his career numbers, and he is playing very well on the defensive end of the floor. While I am not completely comfortable with him in every situation as our everyday PG, I am getting there, and if he continues to make strides, I think he will end up being the perfect guy for our system.

he's been playing very good defense thus far. Shooting well too. My only problem with his play has been his reluctance to penetrate and dish. IMO Collins has really shackled Larry's game by forcing him to play conservative.

Other than that, he has been well worth his salary. And he's only 23, so he will improve in the longrun.

I'm happy with him. I want to see him post up smaller guards.

I'm starting to really like this guy. Here is the Wash Times article from 12/6/2002:

Looks like Lue's minutes are dwindling as Larry gets healthier.

Hughes has been okay lately but kinda up and down this season. he's given what I expected though good defense, some stupid turnovers and some scoring outbursts. He is what he is and thats a solid interim pg . I'm starting to feel the Wizards have the Steve Spurrier Mentality thinks they can make players who failed other places into something they're not. Hughes I think could be a good shooting guard but he's given us something we lacked last year at the pg spot and thats defense. I think he has been stellar guarding people out there and his ability to guard three positions have been key when the Wiz have to switch on defense they have a good defender across the board unlike when C Whit would switch on to a sg and we'd have to double immediatley opening up shots for the opponent.

Hughes grade to this point C+

But improving.

22 points, 10 rebs, and 6 ast on 8-10 shooting aint too shabby.

Hughes is only 23. We've only just begun to see this kid's potential.
